Scenic Views of Fall Foliage
Lynn Woods is a pocket of natural beauty away from the city, but for some leaf-peepers, walking in the woods isn’t enough. They want scenic views from high up so they can take in the full New England foliage. That’s why it’s lucky that there are two incredible towers to visit for the best views of the tree and skyline.
Lynn Woods Stone Tower
The Lynn Woods Stone Tower was constructed in 1936 atop the highest point in Lynn, Burrill Hill. While it was originally built for spotting fires, it now provides visitors with stunning, unobstructed views of the surrounding Lynn Woods’ stunning fall foliage. It’s a spectacular spot for leaf peeping, bird watching, wildlife photography, and more.
High Rock Tower
Boasting a height of 170 feet, High Rock Tower is another popular landmark and place to get gorgeous scenic views. Located less than three-quarters of a mile from the ocean, you’ll enjoy unobstructed views of Boston, Nahant, and Swampscott. It’s the perfect place to bring your camera or binoculars to get great views of the vibrant woods. There are even occasional night tours so you can experience star-gazing away from the lights of the city.
Lynn Local Legends and History
Like all cities and towns in Massachusetts, Lynn has several historic sites and museums you’ll want to visit. Some, like the Mary Baker Eddy House, are closed for the season, but are still worth popping by to take some photos of. Others remain open and welcome curious visitors even when the weather turns cool.
Lynn Museum
For the full story of Lynn, you’ll want to visit the Lynn Museum. Founded in 1897, it collects, preserves, and illuminates the city’s remarkable history. The museum has evolved into a vibrant cultural center, offering changing exhibitions and innovative programs to allow out of towners and locals alike the chance to learn about Lynn’s past and shape the city’s future. The museum is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10am-5pm as well as the second Saturday of each month from 10am-2pm.
Dungeon Rock
Dungeon Rock has some fantastic and fascinating stories behind it. According to local legend, this 135-foot deep cave was once believed to have been the hiding place of a pirate and his treasure during the 1600s. The pirate lived in the cave for some time until an earthquake rocked the Lynn area, sealing the opening and spelling his doom. Come explore the cave and determine for yourself if the legend is true.
