Each community North of Boston is unique and special in its own right. The quintessential New England feel, the natural beauty of the land, and the historical significance of each landmark are all reasons to visit the area.

But did you know that there are also some rare museums that celebrate the true remarkableness of the region? Let’s explore some of these so you can be sure to add them to your list next time you visit.

Museum of Printing

Located in Haverhill, Massachusetts, The Museum of Printing celebrates the history of communications and graphic design. If you’ve ever wondered how historical documents were printed over the years or how graphic arts developed into the booming marketing world we have today, this is the museum for you.

While taking a guided tour at this hidden gem North of Boston, you will learn all about fonts on computers, find out about the first books ever printed in the United States, and see some unique devices used for mass production of printing materials.

During your tour, you will also have an opportunity to see and check out over 6,000 books about printing, graphics, and the visual arts!

Grand Army of the Republic Museum

The Grand Army of the Republic Hall and Museum in Lynn, Massachusetts is one of the last existing buildings in the United States still used to honor the men who fought to save the Union during the Civil War.

The hall still retains its original furnishings and has walls filled with photos of the Civil War veterans and battlefields. In addition to memorializing the Civil War veterans, six more rooms have memorabilia from the Revolutionary War through the Korean War.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its “Significance in Military, Architectural and Social History.”

Custom House Maritime Museum

If the maritime history of our local region or nation interests you, a trip to the Custom House Maritime Museum in Newburyport, Massachusetts may be in order.

This museum is more than just a steward of the maritime history of the northeast, but also a dynamic maritime history museum including an education and cultural center. It also is used as a venue for professional or social gatherings.
