Wu Han, piano | Philip Setzer, violin | David Finckel, cello
In recent seasons, David Finckel and Wu Han have appeared frequently with violinist Philip Setzer—David Finckel’s colleague in the legendary Emerson String Quartet for more than three decades—in performances of the piano trio literature. The trio has been met with critical acclaim worldwide. Of their performance of the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Utah Symphony, Reichel Recommends wrote, “It used to be the Beaux Arts Trio that other piano trios had to look up to and attempt to emulate. Now it’s the Han-Setzer-Finckel triumvirate that is the standard bearer.” In addition to their concert activities, the artists have recorded the piano trios of Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Dvořák on the ArtistLed label, and embarked on trios by Beethoven and more in the 2018–19 concert season.
Among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today, Finckel and Han are recipients of Musical America’s Musicians of the Year award, and continue to serve as Artistic Directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Music@Menlo. “When a pair of genuine artists explodes on the stage, exuding not only glamour and theatrical flair but also superb musical insight, the audience’s thrill is twofold.” —Chicago Sun-Times
