Seaside Sustainability is one of many local organizations participating in the Chebacco Lake Coalition’s effort to restore and improve the Alewife brook on Chebacco lake, and the team is searching for volunteers to help.
From now until Wednesday, September 1, there will be two volunteer sessions offered every day of the week at the corner of Apple Street and Western Avenue in Essex, MA. The first session is in the morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the second is an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tools and training will be provided to remove vegetation, as well as other manageable obstructions that currently block water flow and impede Alewife Herring from traveling across Chebacco lake. Volunteers will also remove invasive species from the area that disrupt the ecosystem.
Click the first link below to sign up and visit the second link to find additional information on the Chebacco Lake Restoration Landing Page. After signing up, the volunteer organizer, Cole Falk, will reach out to you with more information on how to prepare. Together, we can make a difference in the community and help foster a healthy ecosystem!
