Event Navigation

Newburyport native Kate Bolick, author of the New York Times bestseller Spinster: Making a Life of One’s Own, will give a free public talk at Endicott College on Tuesday, October 9, 5 pm in the auditorium of the College’s Judge Science Center. Part memoir, part cultural history, Spinster explores the pleasures and possibilities of remaining single. The book introduces readers to pioneering women from the past, including social visionary Charlotte Perkins Gilman, poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, and novelist Edith Wharton, who inspired Bolick to fashion her own life on her terms. By animating their unconventional ideas and choices, Bolick shows us that contemporary debates about settling down, and having it all, are timeless. Bolick is a contributing editor for The Atlantic, and a freelance writer for The New York Times, Slate, and Vogue. She teaches writing at New York University and has appeared on The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, and numerous NPR programs. The event is free and open to the public.
