The Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library will be hosting NY Times bestselling author Michael Tougias on Saturday afternoon, October 26, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. He will present the compelling true story of Gloucester heroes “A Blizzard of 1978 Tale of Heroism at Sea,” a narrated gripping slide presentation of the dramatic rescue during the Blizzard of 1978. During the height of the blizzard, the pilot boat Can Do, with five men onboard, set out from Gloucester, MA, to assist a lost Coast Guard boat and an oil tanker that was in a Mayday situation. Tougias tells the story of what happened on that awful night when the seas were producing monstrous waves of 40 feet, and the wind was screaming at 100 miles per hour.
This special event for adults and teens alike is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support provided by The Friends of the SFL. A book signing with the author will follow the presentation. The library is located at 2 Dale Avenue in Gloucester. For more information visit sawyerfreelibrary.org.
