This course provides an opportunity to draw directly from the collection of sculptures and paintings in the Cape Ann Museum. Students will learn how to draw human and animal forms three-dimensionally and will gradually merge this approach with their innate style. First, the class will focus on the basic planes of the human head by drawing self-portraits and referencing the human skull. Moving out into the galleries, the class will explore light and shadow followed by expression and composition. Students will also have the opportunity to reference materials from CAM’s Library & Archives, including the Charles S. Hopkinson Collection.
