The landscape of Cape Ann has been shaped by ancient geologic forces, from the collision of tectonic plates to the movement of glacial ice. Using examples from the Museum’s current works on view, including Edward Hopper’s 1928 painting Cape Ann Granite, we’ll explore how this geologic history led to Cape Ann’s important quarry industry and to landforms that have inspired artists for over two centuries.
