This course explores collage and the variety of materials that can be used to express ideas and emotions in visual form. The rich history of modernist collage, including the work of Picasso, Braque and Schwitters and will be discussed. Contemporary masters, such as Motherwell, Vicente, Marca-Relli, Ryan, Rauschenberg and Bearden will also be introduced. Each day will provide time for studio work, discussion and critique. The first part of the workshop week consists of directed involvements. Experimentation and interpretation will be encouraged. The latter part of the week will allow for more self-directed work.
Prerequisite: Some previous drawing and painting experience is helpful but not required.

About Tim: Tim Harney is a painter and passionate educator. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he received both his B.F.A. and M.F.A. In addition to teaching at Montserrat, he has taught painting and drawing at the DeCordova Museum School, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Tim has exhibited widely, and his work is in the permanent collection of the DeCordova Museum as well as in many private and corporate collections.
