Captains Courageous

End the summer with a bang at this exciting outdoor concert at The Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover, in collaboration with Crossroads Music Series! Enjoy a meal and drink from our food, hard cider and beer vendors as you listen to the “hits you’ve never heard of” from the band, The Country Hits, followed by Cuban Roots, Rock & Reggae Fusion band, Los Sugar Kings. This is a full day of family fun and music with a festival vibe, sure to bring you back to those carefree summer days and get your feet moving.

Food and Drink provided by: Far From the Tree Cider, Chez Rafiki’s and Kim’s Pure Pastry

New England Music Award Winners, Los Sugar Kings are a Boston-Based Cuban Roots, Rock & Reggae Fusion quartet who write, record and perform across the North-East United States. They are known for their dynamic live performances, rich harmonies, intense musicianship and ability to transcend genres with an authenticity rarely heard. In their world, respect is paid to the forefathers and traditions of Afro-Cuban Son, Salsa and Rumba-Flamenca but Los Sugar Kings (named after a Cuban baseball team) also actively draw on influences from nearly every continent in their unique roots-rock-reggae fusion repertoire.

The Country Hits like to play classic country music from the 50s-80s, along with a few surprises. Electric guitar, piano and drums, this trio keeps it simple with tunes by Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Tammy Wynette, Webb Pierce, and many of the better known and deeper cuts from these eras. You want to hear Johnny Cash? OK, we’ll play that, too.

Far From the Tree Cider will be serving up their delicious locally brewed hard cider. Far From The Tree’s cider bears no resemblance to large mass produced hard ciders. It is not super sweet, but rather dry and refreshing with light carbonation, and tastes deliciously of apples. That’s because the first ingredient in each of the company’s three current varieties is, in fact, pressed apples. Far From The Tree originally started with three varieties of its dry ciders: Roots, Rind and Sprig. Since opening their tasting room in August 2015 the cider makers have made dozens of new ciders. Enjoy!

If you’ve never experienced the pure joy of Kim’s Pure Pastry then this is your chance! This Beverly-based unique wholesale and retail kitchen is naturally organic, locally sourced and literally home grown. From their warm kitchen, they offer exquisite pastry that caters to many special dietary needs, from gluten free, to vegan, to nut free and “normal”. They are a small business purely dedicated to the integrity of their clients, to the pastry they make, and the foot print they leave on this earth. Let them help you enjoy the simple act of eating sweets together!

Don’t forget dinner! To fill your belly, grab a falafel sandwich or chicken shawarma made with fresh local ingredients from Chez Rafiki’s, a Lowell-based Mediterranean Halal food truck. Once you give this truck a try, one reviewer declares “Life is better now”. There’s no arguing, “In all seriousness, this food is one of, if not, the best in the Lowell area!!! I could literally eat something from here every night.” For more information: https://www.facebook.com/chezrafikisfoodtruck/
