It’s not every day one discovers vintage couture tucked away in a closet. Recently, a visitor on a tour noticed some iconic fabric and raised the point that she believed them to be Mariano Fortuny gowns. She was right! Both garments, dating between 1920 and 1930, are velvet tabard gowns in Fortuny’s “Eleonora” Renaissance style and feature the famous pleating. The two gowns were simply folded on a shelf in Irene’s closet for decades!
These never before seen vintage, couture gowns will go on display for a brief 3 weeks in September. We will also have on hand copies of Fortuny’s fabric pressing and famous pleating patents and have samples of Fortuny Fabrics from the 1950s . Nowhere else in the United States are any Fortuny gowns on public display, see them for yourself!
The prices for exhibit are:
Youth 6-12 $9.00
Seniors 65+ $10.00
Adult and Teen $14
