Event Navigation

Starting at 9AM June 4th the Friends of Lynn Woods and the Essex County Greenbelt Association will be hosting 2 walk/hikes through Lynn Woods. The first hike beginning at 9AM will be a 3 hour hike and include visits to the Historic Dungeon Rock cave excavated between 1850-1880 by the Marble family who came to the area drawn by stories of buried pirate treasure (unfortunately no treasure) but the cave they excavated is unique and accessible, also we will visit Stone Tower a four story stone structure built during the nineteen thirties and recently renovated and re-opened where a 360 degree vista is available for viewing. Also we will visit other natural and historic sites in the woods. The second walk is one hour and leads to Dungeon Rock also but this will be a one hour trip designed for children and families. Lynn Woods entrance is accessible off of Walnut St where it turns onto Pennybrook Rd- the entrance to the woods- and starting point for the hikes. Both walks are free with free parking and require no registration. These hikes are also a celebration of the upcoming Conservation Restriction legal deed which will define 2200 acres of premier forest and watershed and prevent any unwanted development or incursions in the woods. For more information access Essex County Greenbelt homepage or contact Dan Broderick raqpperd7@yahoo.com
