ReDesign, ReImagine and ReUse: A PaPauPaSewing Bee at Paula Estey Gallery
Paula Estey Gallery (PEG), in collaboration with the Rubbish to Runway ReFashion Show, announces a class called “The Redesign, ReImagine, ReUse Sewing Bee” for four Monday evenings this fall at Paula Estey Gallery, 3 Harris Street, Newburyport. The class will demonstrate techniques of reusing textiles to create new fashions for everyday wear.
Paula Estey, Executive Director of the Paula Estey Gallery, Elizabeth Rose, founder and director of the Rubbish to Runway ReFashion Show, and Katy Bratun, children’s book illustrator and textile artist, will lead the workshop. There will be a capacity for twelve participants.
The Sewing Bee will be held on Mondays, September 9, 16, 23 and Oct. 7 from 6-8:30 PM at PEG. Participants will celebrate the capacity for renewal by creating clothing from materials that are no longer vital in their home closets. They will learn to create new artwear from old t-shirts and clean recyclable textiles making a top, skirt, necklace, bracelet, or fabric-art suitable for framing. The four-week Sewing Bee will cost $100, which includes instruction, most supplies and equipment.
PEG will supply the wine for sipping, scissors for cutting, and needles and thread for stitching. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag of clean recyclable textiles such as clothing, fashion accessories, and fabric home items (curtains, blankets, kitchen) to share.
This workshop and ongoing class is appropriate for refashionistas, textile artists, reuse enthusiasts, fashion designers, and clothing makers. @refashionart. Please pre-register at firstname.lastname@example.org or 978-376-4746.
