Root’s mission is to help young adults create a pathway to independence through food-service training and employment. By developing essential life and work readiness skills, youth leave Root prepared for success in the workplace. To do this, the organization combines 240 hours of culinary training, workforce preparedness, on-the-job experiences, and life skills workshops into an intensive 14-week program, followed by one year of advising and employment support. Through the Root Café, Catering by Root, the HarborPoint event space, and Root’s Community Catering initiative, Root provides youth employment and continued skill development in the culinary arts.
