After its dazzling debut last summer, The Salem Rainbow Stroll, Witch City’s LGBTQ+ history tour, is back in June 2023 by popular demand! This dynamic, 90-minute exploration of downtown celebrates the queer romance, revelry, and revolutionaries in Salem’s past, spanning from ancient times to present day. Whether you’re a long-time local or a first-time visitor, The Rainbow Stroll will shed new light on this enchanting city.

In 2022, it premiered as the city’s first-ever queer-centered tour, exactly a decade after Salem became the first town on Boston’s North Shore to host a pride parade in 2012. Developed by local historian and artist, Lemaris Bell (They/Them), the route winds its way through the heart of downtown, highlighting statues, 19th century mansions, and other iconic sites with ties to the tour’s LGBTQ+ subjects. Lemaris themself and fellow Salem historian, Sebastian Crane (He/Him), lend a combined twenty years of experience to the research behind this showcase of too-often-hidden history. And as guides, they bring longtime loves of theater to their storytelling, infusing vibrant life into the past.

Attendees can look forward to an epic range of tales told with the perfect balance of sass and solemnity. Get the gossip on the tangle of affairs among 19th century actresses, hear about the wonders worked by a nonbinary preacher in the 1700’s, and enjoy the secret love letters exchanged between Salem’s best-known author and his male colleague… The glittering humor and uncompromising heart of this one-of-a-kind tour is sure to make for an unforgettable experience in Witch City. Long story short, it’s going to be a really good time.

Want to join in the fun? The Salem Rainbow Stroll runs on Saturdays and Sundays in June. Space is limited, so if your curiosity is piqued, be sure to book your tickets in advance!
