Salem State’s Summer Orchestra will present a free concert onSunday afternoon, August 11 at 3 pm in the university’s Recital Hall,71 Loring Ave. The concert will include works by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and Grieg. Lynn resident Brandon Von is the featured soloist in CarlMaria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1. Von is a 2017 graduate of Lynn Classical. He is a Dean’s List student at Boston University where he is currently pursuing a degree in music, majoring in clarinet. The group is led by Salem State music professor Mary-Jo Grenfell. She will share thepodium at this concert with Marshunda Smith who will conduct Mozart’s Divertimento in D and Two Elegiac Melodies by Edward Grieg. The summer orchestra at Salem State provides an opportunity for musicians to read, rehearse, and perform music from the symphonic and chamber repertoire. The ensemble is a community orchestra comprised of intermediate and advanced musicians. The participants meet to play orchestral music, and also have anopportunity to form chamber ensembles with other members of the ensemble.Admission to this concert is free.
