Salem Witch Museum Joins Smithsonian Magazine’s
12th Annual Museum Day Live!
Free Admission on September 23, 2017, with a Downloadable Museum Day Live! Ticket
Salem Witch Museum, Salem MA—will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 23, 2017 as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s twelfth annual Museum Day Live! On this day only, museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.
Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums, and other cultural institutions, to provide visitors with insight and inspiration. The event represents a nationwide commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are. Over 200, 000 people downloaded tickets for last year’s event, and this year’s event is expected to attract more museum-goers than ever before.
This year, Museum Day Live! will feature special interactive lesson plans created by Smithsonian in partnership with Microsoft using Minecraft: Education Edition. The Salem Witch Museum will be able to utilize the Smithsonian material based lesson plans to enhance the Museum Day Live! experience.
“Smithsonian is recognized as the keepers of our Nation’s history to inform and educate future generations of our humble beginnings. We at the Salem Witch Museum are pleased to join many other museums across our nation by participating in this one day program. Although the Salem witch trials episode was a dark period in the early years of our nation, their lessons are still relevant today. Museum Day Live! provides us with an opportunity to encourage visitation and provide our guests with the history of the Salem witch trials and incredible savings.” said museum spokesperson, Merry Ward.
Visitors to the Salem Witch Museum are given a dramatic history lesson using stage sets with life-size figures, lighting and a narration – an overview of the Witch Trials of 1692. The Museum exhibit, Witches – Evolving Perceptions, is a provocative tour which examines the pagan midwife, stereotypical witch, modern witchcraft and the phenomenon of witch hunts.
The Museum Day Live! Ticket will be available to download beginning in August at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! Ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
