SALEM – Valentine’s Day starts early this year with lots of activities for friends, family and lovers at both The House of the Seven Gables and throughout the City of Salem during the popular event, Salem’s So Sweet.
On Saturday, February 10, visitors to The House of the Seven Gables are invited to celebrate Salem’s So Sweet with a full day of festive events that concludes with a rare and special reading of some of Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne’s love letters. Here’s The Gables’ schedule of events, beginning at 10 a.m.:
Ice Sculpture Viewing:
In partnership with Ye Olde Pepper Companie, visitors may view an ice sculpture that will be illuminated for an evening stroll at 5 p.m. For more information, visit the Salem Main Streets Facebook events page at https://www.facebook.com/events/530844093968705/.
Free Grounds Passes:
To take a guided stroll on the Museum grounds, download The Gables’ audio tour from the website – https://7gables.org – and enjoy a stroll around the oceanfront grounds or visit the Museum Store for Valentine’s Day gifts unique to Salem and The Gables. From 10 am to 5 p.m.
A Valentine’s Day without sweet treats is a travesty never to be allowed. Between 1 and 3 p.m., Gables’ guests may drop by the Visitor Center and decorate a cookie, free of charge.
Family Valentine Crafts:

Craft-making is free with registration between 1 and 3 p.m.
“Dearest Dove” – A reading of the love letters of Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne:
A special reading of the love letters of Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne, along with a chocolate and wine tasting, concludes this lively day. The event, sponsored by Ye Olde Pepper Companie, runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets start at $15.
