Sirojiddin Juraev comes from a lineage of traditional musicians in his native region of northern Tajikistan. He is a master of the dutar and tanbur, two long-necked lutes that are used in music through Central and West Asia. He will be accompanied by master percussionist Abbos Kosimov, an acclaimed performer of Uzbek drums such as the large frame drum called the doira. Come hear them discuss the art of shashmaqam music from Central Asia in a public lecture-demonstration from 12:15 to 1:30 PM. Their evening performance will be preceded at 7PM by a lecture by Harvard professor Dr. Richard Wolf. All events are free and will be in the Central Campus Recital Hall.
