With the goal of loose and intuitive self expression my most recent work with collage has become less realistic in nature, reflecting adesire to let go of self imposed boundaries. I have found myself applyingtorn magazine pages to my canvas as if they were swashes of paint from mybrush. This approach has forced a looser and more intuitive approach to myart. I choose to tear, rather than cut my paper as I like the roughnessand the white edge that you can get with some papers. Overlapping colors and shapes has allowed for nuances to take place by leaving just enough ofthe underlay to achieve a line or curve where needed. Now more confident Ihave moved onto figures and landscapes drawn from sketches from my journals. Many times a contour drawing is all that is needed to start a new piece. Collage has added a whole new dimension to the way in which I expressmyself as an artist.
