Merrimack’s own music faculty will explore the connections between French impressionism and American jazz. The program will feature music by French composers—Debussy, Tailleferre and others— who created musical Impressionism and were strongly influenced by ragtime and early jazz. The music of American jazz composers who brought sophisticated, impressionistic harmonies to jazz—including George Gershwin, Duke Ellington,Alice Coltrane, and Kay Swift—will also be featured. Performers will include Cristi Catt and Laura Moore Pruett, sopranos; Hugh Hinton, piano;Joseph Gotoff, cello; Paul Geresy, percussion; plus special guests.
