Join Susan Baker Leavitt, a scholar in Oceanic art, for a look at the Phillips family’s Oceanic art collection in this two-part program that will explore a variety of unique objects related to life in the Pacific islands.
On Saturday, November 14, go behind the scenes of Historic New England’s collection storage in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Many of the objects that will be shown have not been seen by the public in decades. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view objects ranging from weapons to hand-carved fishing hooks to tapa cloth samples.
On Sunday, November 15, meet at Phillips House to learn about the family’s passion for collecting. See the objects as they were displayed when the family lived on historic Chestnut Street in Salem.
Registration is strongly suggested for this tour due to limited space. The cost is $60 for both tours and $40 for Historic New England members. Please call 978-744-0440 or visit HistoricNewEngland.org to register and for address details.
