Event Navigation

International recording artist, composer and music educator Duncan Lorien offers his groundbreaking Understanding the Basics of Singing Seminar™ from Saturday, July 8 through Sunday, July 9, 2017. The seminar is open to anyone who is interested in mastering the basics of singing through Lorien’s revolutionary approach. The seminar will be held at Bristol Studios located at 169 Mass Ave in Boston, opposite Berklee College of Music. This seminar will only be offered once in Boston in 2017; don’t miss your chance to attend! To register online, please visit

During the seminar Lorien unravels the basics of singing and live performance. The first part of the seminar trains anyone to deal with stagefright, and dramatically increases stage presence. Attendees learn simple drills to increase breath and pitch control, range and tonal quality. Lorien’s radical approach breaks down each of these concepts so attendees can gain comfort in singing and performance in just one weekend.

Understanding the Basics of Singing Seminar is one of three internationally renowned seminars offered by Lorien through his Understanding of Music Company. Founded in 1991, the Understanding of Music Company has offered seminars on understanding music, singing and songwriting in over 16 countries on six continents. With over 25,000 graduates worldwide, Lorien has built an extensive fan base for his unique methodology and has received critical acclaim throughout the US, Europe, Russia, New Zealand and Australia.

The immense success of Lorien’s seminars is a result of over 20 years of research into the history and teaching of Western music. “This is the way music was always meant to be,” says Lorien. “It’s a subject for the common man, not just the chosen few. I want to bring music back to the people—where it belongs—and show everyone that it is not a complex, serious subject but a fun, freeing experience to learn and master any instrument including the voice.”

The seminar is open to anyone who wishes to expand their knowledge and understanding of singing, from beginners to professional musicians and music teachers. The seminar totals 13 hours held over a Saturday and Sunday. It is recommended that attendees be at least 13 years of age.
