Brian O’Donovan’s A Celtic Sojourn has thrilled radio audiences for twenty-eight years. For the last thirteen, the Christmas-time live version of the show has drawn on Celtic, Pagan, and Christian traditions to celebrate the music of this season. First launched in 2003, A Christmas Celtic Sojourn reflects the compelling and diverse offerings of the weekly national radio program. For the past two years, in celebration of the second decade of the concert series, one of the shows at the beautiful Cutler Majestic Theatre in downtown Boston has been radio broadcast nationally. This year will see a new Public Radio International-distributed special featuring the 2014 program. With legends of music, song, and dance from the Celtic world and beyond poised to take the stage together; this year’s show promises to be one of the most dynamic. Music Director Seamus Egan will be returning with his legendary group Solas. The show is delighted as well to bring back harpist/singer Maeve Gilchrist and cellist Natalie Haas. And in this years exciting exploration of the deep kinship between Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian music, the truly extraordinary Nordie Fiddlers Bloc band will be featured. A Christmas Celtic Sojourn has convinced Dervish, a traditional Irish musical group, to sing with lead woman Cathy Jordan this Christmas. Also, internationally renowned dancer Cara Butler has been named Dance Director for 2015. Declan McHale, an award winning step-dancer from England, joins Cara. Also returning is The Harney Academy of Irish Dance from Walpole. Christmas is always full of surprises; A Christmas Celtic Sojourn has been Artistically directed again by Paula Plum, this is her 13th straight year and promises to be one of the most exciting concerts yet.
