Registration closes on the morning of the first class.\nMuseum Member savings apply. \nAbout Sue Wheeler:\nSue has a lifetime of making art through various mediums from delectable pastries to abstracts in pastels\, watercolor\, and acrylics. She enjoys using her creative flair in quilting and interior design as well. \nSue graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in business with a focus on hospitality management and earned an associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Following her tenure as a pastry chef in New Hampshire\, Sue returned to school for a certificate in graphic design and put her talents to use as a designer in the book publishing and art publishing industries in Vermont. In early 2019\, Sue opened her own gallery and studio\, Arts Abound in Magnolia Village\, MA\, as an artistic haven for local artists. Through the gallery\, over 30 artists featured their creative works\, ranging from paintings\, hand-painted silk scarves\, silver jewelry\, and more. Sue also ran many workshops and classes featuring many of the artists. Often\, Sue would work late into the night\, painting in her Arts Abound studio. After closing the gallery in 2022\, Sue continued to offer the often sold-out painting classes\, taught by some of the Arts Abound artists. \nSue has studied under numerous artists to learn watercolor\, acrylic painting\, cold wax & oil\, and collage. Her goals for the Hammond Castle Museum sketch classes are to engage those who are new to the world of art and reinvigorate those who haven’t picked up a blank canvas or sketch pad in a long time. Sue’s philosophy on the creative process encourages you to be less concerned about the final product and instead to enjoy the journey of creativity and get lost in the moment. Once you find yourself in your work\, you may just be surprised!

SUMMARY:Cello-bration! A Family Concert
DESCRIPTION:Bring the whole family for an engaging musical adventure with a lively cello quartet! In this warm and welcoming concert\, four cellists come together to share the rich\, expressive sound of on of the most beloved instruments in the orchestra. With music that ranges from playful and energetic to lyrical and beautiful\, audiences will experience just how many colors and emotions the cello can create. Along the way\, the musicians will introduce the instrument and show hour four cellos can blend together to create a full and vibrant sound. Young listeners will discover how the cello can sing\, dance\, and even surprise you with sounds you might not expect. \nPraised as a quartet whose “cellists are brilliant instrumentalists and thoughtful musicians individually\, but their renditions as a group are glorious\,” (Arnold Steinhardt\, Guarneri String Quartet) the Galvin Cello Quartet burst onto the scene after capturing the Silver Medal at the 2021 Fischoff Competition. Riding on the momentum of their Fischoff success\, Galvin went on to win the 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition and joined the Concert Artists Guild roster. With members from Brazil\, South Korea\, and the United States\, the Quartet takes its name from the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music\, where three of its members – Sydney Lee\, Haddon Kay\, and Luiz Fernando Venturelli – met as students in the studio of acclaimed pedagogue Hans Jørgen Jensen. In June of 2024\, the Quartet welcomed James Baik\, another former student of Jensen\, as their newest member. \nWith their untamable desire to create\, change\, and ultimately bring joy through music\, the Galvin Cello Quartet is incredibly excited to make the undeniable case that the cello quartet belongs at the center of the expressive lexicon for chamber music alongside other traditional forms. The group’s vibrant international spirit reflects its artistic mission to bring together new works from diverse cultural backgrounds and dazzle audiences with the cello’s limitless capabilities. Each a true virtuoso with a distinct voice\, the members of the Galvin Cello Quartet are able to authentically occupy a wide array of styles\, colors and moods\, as well as shifting roles within given arrangements. Recent highlights include performances and educational residencies at Rockport Music Festival\, Bravo! Vail\, Ravinia\, Ascent International Cello Festival\, Merkin Hall\, and a reappearance at Newport Classical.
