DESCRIPTION:Anna Stube\, violin | Jeanie Chung\, piano | Thomas Wolf\, author\, narrator\nThe Nightingale’s Sonata tells the moving\, uplifting story of one of the first internationally renowned female violinists\, combining live music\, projected historical photographs\, and narration by the author. Music by César Franck weaves through this powerful multimedia portrait of artistry and resilience. \nANNA STUBE\, violin\nNineteen-year-old Latvian violinist Anna Štube has captivated audiences with her remarkable depth of expression and a musical voice devoted to communicating compassion and humanity. Recognized as a featured artist on CBC Music’s 2022 “30 Under 30” roster\, she made her orchestral debut at age thirteen with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra\, marking the beginning of a rapidly emerging international career.Anna’s honors include First Prize at the 2019 Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Manulife Competition\, where she became the youngest winner in the competition’s history; the 2024 Corcoran Concerto and Chamber Music Competitions at the Glenn Gould School; and the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition. During the 2024–25 season\, she returned to the Calgary Philharmonic as a MacLachlan Ridge Emerging Artist. Recent highlights include her Koerner Hall debut performing Britten’s Violin Concerto with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra under Earl Lee\, as well as appearances with the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra\, Calgary Civic Symphony\, and Kensington Sinfonia. \nA passionate chamber musician\, Anna has collaborated with ensembles including the Kronos Quartet\, LGT Young Soloists\, and the Grammy-nominated ARC Ensemble\, and worked with artists such as Midori\, Christian Tetzlaff\, James Ehnes\, and Noah Bendix-Balgley. SUMMARY:Ropes Mansion Self-Guided Tour
DESCRIPTION:Built in 1727 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places\, Ropes Mansion is recognized as one of New England’s most significant historic structures. Fans of the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus will also recognize it as “Allison’s house” – though the inside of the home did not appear in the film. Instead\, its decorations and furnishings reflect a renovation by sisters Sarah\, Mary and Eliza Ropes in the 1890s. Visitors can explore the mansion at their own pace with PEM Guides on hand to answer questions. \nVisits inside the mansion are $15 per person\, or $5 with the purchase of museum admission. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the Admissions desk inside the museum (161 Essex Street). Timed entries are at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour\, with only a limited number of people allowed in the house at a time. Visitors are requested to arrive 10 minutes before their entry time. The last entry of the day is at 3:15 pm. \nThe Ropes Mansion Garden is open to the public every day from dawn to dusk and is free to visit.
