The two seek solace in ways of escaping their mother and their own misery until a visit from a gentleman caller presents the possibility of new opportunities. \nRenowned playwright Tennessee Williams opens the 2025 Season with this classic drama\, directed by Doug Lockwood. Wharf Studio\, Gloucester reflects one such visit in 1958. Blaine was educated in representational\, realist\, and abstract methods of painting\, and was heavily influenced by the instruction of Abstract Expressionist Hans Hofmann (1880-1966). \nYou are invited to join us on Thursdays for a unique experience. Led by a CAM docent\, these deep dives into a single artwork or object from the Collection will begin with conversation\, a short presentation and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Education Center\, followed by a special trip to the James Center to view the object being discussed. DESCRIPTION:Color Theory with Jessica L. Murr\nThursday\, July 17th\, 6:00pm–8:30pm | Upstairs Hartson Gallery\n$55 for NAA members / $75 non-members\nStudents will work with the three primary colors plus white in acrylic paint to understand and learn about color theory. The basics of how colors and paint interact on the substrate\, as well as its application to real life will be included. Still life painting will be used to apply what students have learned from the course into their own artwork. Color schemes\, how colors react to each other\, and how colors evoke emotions will be taught. Students will walk away with a better understanding of how to mix paint colors\, what is in their paint\, find colors in real life\, and how to create a cohesive color palette. This class is designed to be beginner friendly\, and welcome to all types of artists.

DESCRIPTION:Alla Prima Painting with Todd Bonita\nSaturday\, July 19th\, 10:00am–5:00pm | Upstairs or Outside\n$75 for NAA members / $95 non-members\n“Alla Prima” is a technique in which a painting is completed in one session\, wet into wet. This direct method lends itself to thickly applied impasto paint quality and expressive brush work. This class is suitable for beginners or for those who have some experience but are looking for a simple and focussed understanding of the nuts and bolts of oil painting. It is also ideal for Plein air painters who are looking to build upon their skill set. Our class begins with a demo\, where we will introduce the Impressionist philosophy of completing a painting in three acts; (1) The Lay in\, (2) Modification layer and (3) Art infusion layer. Individual steps from Drawing\, Design\, Value\, Color and Creative oil painting techniques and tools will be discussed and demonstrated. With an understanding of these principles\, students will be better equipped to meet the challenges of Alla Prima painting\, and thereby\, better able to express themselves as artist.

DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) announces its next exhibition\, 10 x 10 Small Works\, on view Friday\, July 11th through Wednesday\, July 23rd. This show features over 80 art pieces that are all 10” x 10” in size. The artworks may be small\, yet are big on creativity using various mediums\, all featured in the first floor Sargent Gallery. \nThis exhibition coincides with Newburyport Art’s Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show\, on view in the first floor Hills Gallery. The Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show will share an opening reception with Small Works on Saturday\, July 12th\, from 4-6pm. The public is welcome to attend\, meet some of the exhibiting artists\, and enjoy light refreshments. \nFounded in 1948\, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members’ work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. Featuring artist books\, altered books\, and book illustration\, “Boundless” showcases imaginative approaches to storytelling\, visual poetry\, personal narratives\, and inventive book structures. Visitors will encounter works that range from the traditional to the avant-garde—books that hang\, twist\, stand\, open like advent calendars\, or defy conventional forms altogether. \nThe exhibition presents a wide array of techniques\, including letterpress\, etching\, monoprint\, painting\, photography\, and mixed media. DESCRIPTION:Every weekend at Cider Hill Farm farm brings FREE family-friendly live music on the main lawn from 12-3 pm and extended music on festival dates 11 am – 4 pm. Grab a drink from the Outdoor Hard Cider Bar 11 am – 4 pm on Saturdays and 12-4 pm on Sundays. \nFood – Grab lunch at the food truck 11 am – 4 pm and snacks in the farm store 8 am – 6 pm. Guest food trucks and vendors pop-ups regularly. \nPlay – Parking\, play areas and barnyard are always free and open 8 am – 6 pm daily. Bee observatory\, chickens and goats arrive mid-May. \nWeather – Music\, food truck and hard cider bar are weather dependent. We make decisions 8 am on the day of in case weather shifts overnight. Check website at 8:30 am.
