SUMMARY:Navigating Art & Science | Exhibit at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck
DESCRIPTION:Navigating Art & Science\nCurated by Cynthia Roth\, Marge Rack\, and Ronda Faloon\nAugust 28 – October 13\nOpening Reception: Sunday\, September 14\, 4-6pm\nGallery Hours: Thursday-Sunday\, 12-5pm\nExhibiting Artists: Resa Blatman\, Daisy Braun\, Georgie Friedman\, Perri Lynch Howard\, Michelle Lougee\, Michelle Samour\, Jessica Straus\, and Christopher Volpe \nNavigating Art & Science featuring eight artists who are deeply involved in scientific inquiry and activism. SUMMARY:Sinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders & Literary Legends
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour featuring architectural treasures from PEM’s collection! The only walking tours in Salem that offer entry into historic buildings\, PEM’s tours cover five centuries of happenings and characters from Witch City\, including the infamous trials of 1692. \nSinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders and Literary Legends starts by painting the picture of life in 1692 by examining the Gardner-Pingree House. The killing of Joseph White gripped Salem and the country in 1830 with its brawling brothers\, custom-built murder weapons\, conspiring family members and a body that was autopsied three times. Follow PEM’s expert guides into the room where it happened – if you dare! \nThis is an indoor/outdoor tour. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. We’ll see you rain or shine! \nThis tour involves walking around 0.5 miles\, standing on hard surfaces and the use of stairs. Historic structures are not ADA accessible. Strollers may be used on the tours\, but may not be brought into any of the historic structures. Historic houses may include areas of low lighting and uneven surfaces. Assisted listening devices are available\, and tour guides will use microphones. \nYou can also follow our expert guides on Brick by Brick: Salem’s Hidden Architectural Stories for an in-depth look at architecture across downtown Salem\, from a millionaire’s mansion to a working-class sailor’s house.

SUMMARY:The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings

SUMMARY:ARTIST TALK: Does Art Have to be an Object? | Deborah Read\, Goetemann Artist-in-Residence
DESCRIPTION:Join Gloucester-based artist Deborah Read at her Artist Talk for an engaging conversation about her art\, process\, and experience as this year’s Goetemann Artist-in-Residence at Rocky Neck Art Colony. Read poses the question: “does art have to be an object?” \nRead’s interdisciplinary practice—spanning installation\, performance\, writing\, and collaborative projects—challenges the notion that art must be an object. As co-founder of Gallery RAG and the international foundation Art+Everywhere\, she has created platforms that dissolve boundaries between artist and audience\, centering collaboration\, care\, and mutual support. \nDuring her residency this October\, Read embraces art as a public process of listening\, generating\, and sharing. “The question is never just ‘what did I make\,’ but ‘what did we generate together?’” she notes. Her work invites us to see generosity as generative—enriching lives\, spaces\, and even economies. \nOther related events:\nOpen Studios — October 27 & 29 from 12-2 PM at Gallery RAG (37 Rocky Neck Ave\, Gloucester)\nCulminating Talk — October 30 at 6 PM at Gallery RAG (37 Rocky Neck Ave\, Gloucester)

SUMMARY:Curator-Led Tour: The Salem Witch Trials 1692
DESCRIPTION:Know before you go\nIn person event\nLocation: The Salem Witch Trials 1692 exhibition gallery \n$20 members and Salem residents ; $50 nonmembers \nJoin us before opening hours for a special curator-led tour of The Salem Witch Trials 1692. Explore the extraordinary series of events between June 1692 and March 1693 that led to the deaths of 25 innocent women\, men and children who were wrongfully convicted of crimes. More than 300 years later\, the personal tragedies and grievous wrongs that occurred still provoke us to reflect and reckon with the experiences of those involved. \nThis ongoing installation tells this story through tangible fragments directly tied to people in Salem and nearby communities in the 1690s. A handwritten petition\, a carved loom\, a walking stick — each illuminates an aspect of individuals who lived through Salem’s witch trials and serves as a reminder of the real people impacted by these harrowing events. Don’t miss this chance to ask the exhibition curators your questions!
