SUMMARY:'The Quarry Project: Photographs by Tsar Fedorsky' Exhibited at Manship Artists Residency
DESCRIPTION:Manship Artists Residency is pleased to announce The Quarry Project: Photographs by Tsar Fedorsky\, which opens at the Manship Artists Residency on Friday\, June 7 and runs through July 7. The Quarry Project is a continuation of Manship Artist Tsar Fedorsky’s twenty-year practice investigating the properties of black-and-white photography and how it creates abstraction from realism. Begun in 2016\, the more recent quarry photographs are a study of duality and tension. They comprise a deep exploration of the familiarity of place\, the quarries near Fedorsky’s home in Gloucester.\nVisitors can register to attend on the home page of the Manship Artists Residency website at ManshipArtists.org.

SUMMARY:Artist Demonstration: John Caggiano
DESCRIPTION:Come see one of our local artists in his element as he paints and educates the public about his process. Bring a friend and your appetite\, as the Parlor Bar will be open to the public. Reservations can be made on RESY. \nJohn Caggiano is a painter who specializes in bright and colorful “impressionistic-realism”. In addition to a brush\, he uses a palate knife to bring life to his work. He has had a studio on Bearskin Neck since 1981\, and has been featured in local print\, as well as television\, and radio. \n“Painting for me is the bold and dynamic use of color that infuses life into the subject of the painting. Color is the lifeblood of the painting. Nothing stimulates more than its pleasing harmony\, whether strongly applied or toned and tranquil.” – John Caggiano \nIn partnership with Rockport Art Association.

SUMMARY:Garrison Keillor Tonight
DESCRIPTION:Garrison Keillor Tonight is an evening of stand-up\, storytelling\, audience song\, and poetry. \nOne man\, one microphone. There are sung sonnets\, limericks and musical jokes\, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience\, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you\, nothing left to prove\, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. (“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.”) \nThere is the News from Lake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr. Keillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national anthem.

SUMMARY:Artist Demonstration: Loren Doucette
DESCRIPTION:Come see our Artist in Residence in her element as she paints and educates the public about her process. Bring a friend and your appetite\, as the Parlor Bar will be open to the public. Reservations can be made on RESY. \nLoren Doucette lives in Gloucester and is a full-time painter. Her work can be viewed at her gallery seven days a week from June to January where she offers art mentoring and classes during the winter months. Using oil\, acrylic\, pastel and gouache\, her work includes architectural landscapes unique to Gloucester’s harbor\, vibrant floral paintings\, emotional figurative work and abstractions that come from the bones of all three subjects. \n“The main thing is my desire for abstraction and reality to meet. If I go too far in one of those directions\, I get really uncomfortable and try to go back to the middle. I often start off very realistic\, but then it doesn’t feel like me unless I make it reach toward the spiritual\, metaphysical\, and abstract. I like elements that float.” – Loren Doucette \nIn partnership with Rockport Art Association.
