DESCRIPTION:Curated by Janice Brand\nExhibit Dates: August 21 – September 14\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, August 21\, 4-7 pm\nClosing Reception: Sunday\, September 14\, 2-5pm\nGallery Hours: Sunday & Monday\, 12-5pm; Thursday – Saturday\, 12-7pm \nRephrasing\, an exhibition curated by Janice Brand\, encompasses the mixed-media work of Shira Karman\, Tobi Klein\, Helen Tory\, and Patricia Wellenkamp\, who utilize the concepts of adaptation and revision. This show\, the fifth for the 2025 season at Cove Gallery\, takes into consideration memory\, family\, story-telling\, and definitely redefinition\, or rephrasing. \nShira Karman focuses on fragments that relate to some other time or place\, whether known or unknown. She is interested in how these fragments tell a story that she may know or hope to uncover. \nTobi Klein explores mono-printing\, collage\, and other mixed-media techniques\, taking inspiration from the continual shifting of light\, color\, and pattern of the granite quarries and the sea. She builds a story\, inviting viewers to peel back the layers and look below the surface. \nHelen Tory uses diverse media to express her connection with birds described in her father’s 1930s nature diaries. A variety of paint\, mark-making\, torn papers\, and string elicit each bird’s particular characteristics. \nPatricia Wellenkamp uses a series of carved linoleum blocks to print on cotton and other fabrics. She incorporates embroidery\, paper\, and other elements to add ornamentation and complexity to images that might come from an ancestor’s dress\, dahlias in her garden or imagined landscapes.

Required \nPaul D’Angelo\nA former Essex County (MA) assistant district attorney and criminal-defense trial attorney who simultaneously became one of the country’s top stand-up comics. \nBesides headlining A-List comedy clubs for almost forty years\, Paul has also opened for over sixty internationally known recording acts including Ray Charles\, Aretha Franklin\, Tom Jones\, Tony Bennett\, The Beach Boys\, Chicago\, The Four Tops\, The Temptations\, The Doobie Brothers\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, Lyle Lovett\, and George Carlin\, and has performed in many famed entertainment venues ranging from the legendary Friar’s Club and the main ballroom of New York City’s Waldorf Astoria\, to the main showroom at Harrah’s Casino and Caesar’s Palace. \nHe has entertained hundreds of prominent corporate clients throughout the country including the Ford Motor Co.\, Sony Music Corp.\, Hewlett-Packard Corp.\, Nike-Bauer International\, Fidelity Investments\, Bike Athletic Corp.\, CVS/Caremark Inc.\, American Airlines\, Delta Airlines\, General Electric\, the American Bar Association\, Goldman-Sachs\, UPS\, Edward Jones Investments\, and the Burger King Corp. \nPaul co-starred in the popular stand-up comedy movie The Godfathers of Comedy on Showtime\, and is also the author of six hilarious books that have won numerous literary awards. \nPaul Gilligan\nOne of the most requested comedians in Boston\, bringing down the\nhouse with an attitude first developed as a high school class clown\, and with material culled from his life as a blue collar worker\, husband\, and father. In addition to headlining in Boston clubs\, golf tournaments\, fundraisers\, roasts\, and other events\, Gilligan is a regular performer at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas. \nAmong the national headliners he’s performed with are Pat Cooper\, the Amazing Johnathan\, Dom Irrera\, Dave Chappelle\, Brian Regan\, Gilbert Godfried\, and David Alan Grier\, as well as Boston-boys-gone-national Dane Cook\, Lenny Clarke\, Nick DiPaolo\, Joe Rogan\, John Pinette\, and Maine’s Bob Marley. At one point\, he hosted his own weekly shows at two Nick’s Comedy Stop locations\, in Framingham and Saugus.
