SUMMARY:Rocky Neck Historic Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Rocky Neck Historic Walking Tour are back for the season! This public walking tour covers the rich history of Rocky Neck Art Colony\, showcasing the many artists who worked here\, especially from the late nineteenth century to today. Artists such as Edward Hopper\, Winslow Homer\, Augustus Buhler\, John Sloan\, Theresa Bernstein\, Stuart Davis\, and Emile Gruppe found artistic inspiration and community in this peninsula. \nJoin one of our docents on the tour and follow a path that held studios and gathering places of the artists\, interspersed with the fishing shacks\, sail lofts\, and schooner docks of the fishing industry that grew up here over the same period. It will include recognition of the many galleries that contribute to the Rocky Neck community today. The tour also describes the importance of transportation and the proliferation of hotels that encouraged the growth of Rocky Neck as an artist community\, as well as other notable historic events. \nRNAC’s Historic Walking Tours last from 1- to 1.5 hours and cover approximately .75 miles. Tours begin at the Rocky Neck Parking Lot and end at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center\, 6 Wonson Street\, Gloucester\, MA. \nParticipants are encouraged to park in the parking lot at the entrance to Rocky Neck where a volunteer tour guide meets the group. Comfortable shoes are encouraged. Be prepared to walk on uneven terrain and up a hill. \nThe 2025 public tours will be take place on Saturdays at 11am:\nMay 24\nJune 7 & 21\nJuly 12 & 26\nAugust 9 & 23\nSeptember 6 & 20 \nTours are limited to 15 people.\nCost: $10 for RNAC members or $25 for nonmembers. \nFor more information email director@rockyneckartcolony.org or call 978-515-7004. While local scientists search for ways to help ocean species be more resilient to survive the rapidly changing marine environment\, these artists\, alert to the predicament\, are creating art with urgent messages for stewardship and action. \nThe exhibit coincides with a city-wide initiative STAND UP for Art & Science\, coordinated by Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute volunteers. \nWhile all the work in the exhibition has been created in response to human impact on the environment\, in addition\, several of the artists have been inspired by expeditions to the Arctic Circle and Greenland and residencies in marine laboratories on Cape Ann and beyond. While local scientists search for ways to help ocean species be more resilient to survive the rapidly changing marine environment\, these artists\, alert to the predicament\, are creating art with urgent messages for stewardship and action. \nThe exhibit coincides with a city-wide initiative STAND UP for Art & Science\, coordinated by Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute volunteers. \nWhile all the work in the exhibition has been created in response to human impact on the environment\, in addition\, several of the artists have been inspired by expeditions to the Arctic Circle and Greenland and residencies in marine laboratories on Cape Ann and beyond. Founded in 2018 by mezzo-soprano Carla Maniscalco-Giovinco and soprano Kim Lamoureux\, the ensemble has quickly established itself as a vibrant force in the North Shore’s cultural scene. \nThis program is funded in part by a grant from the Salem Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

The two seek solace in ways of escaping their mother and their own misery until a visit from a gentleman caller presents the possibility of new opportunities. \nRenowned playwright Tennessee Williams opens the 2025 Season with this classic drama\, directed by Doug Lockwood. Running from June 5 to 28\, all performances are at Gloucester Stage’s Theater 267 East Main Street\, Gloucester. Showtimes are Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30pm\, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00pm\, and matinees Saturdays & Sunday at 3:00pm.
