Galleries throw open their doors\, artists welcome visitors into their studios\, musicians fill the harbor air with live performances\, and creative energy spills onto the streets along Gloucester’s iconic working waterfront. \nRecognized as one of Cape Ann’s signature summer traditions\, Culture Splash offers something for everyone. Visitors can enjoy gallery openings\, artist demonstrations\, poetry readings\, live music\, signature cocktails\, waterfront dining\, and opportunities to meet the artists who make Rocky Neck one of New England’s most celebrated creative communities. \nAdding to the experience\, a free water shuttle will once again connect stops at Solomon’s Landing and St. Peter’s Square to Rocky Neck\, delivering guests directly to the heart of the festivities at 51 Rocky Neck Restaurant. \n“Culture Splash captures everything that makes Rocky Neck special\,” said Elizabeth Carey\, Executive Director of Rocky Neck Art Colony. “It’s an evening where art\, music\, food\, history\, and community come together against the backdrop of Gloucester Harbor. DESCRIPTION:A Western exhibition at a seaside New England castle? That’s exactly what makes this temporary exhibition so special. \nJoin Hammond Castle Museum for an exclusive opening celebration of “Brave-Too-Much”: The Legend of John Coffee Hays\, an original temporary exhibition presented in partnership with the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco\, Texas. Through the loan of museum artwork and fascinating stories\, this unique exhibition introduces New England audiences to the legendary Texas Ranger captain who was also the great-uncle and namesake of John Hays Hammond Jr. \nThe exhibition traces Hays’s extraordinary journey from joining the Texas Rangers at just 19 years old to becoming one of the most respected military leaders of his era. Notable Rangers who served under or alongside him include Samuel Walker\, co-inventor of the Colt Walker revolver\, the first practical six-shooter in the Old West\, and Flacco\, a Lipan Apache chief\, who gave him the nickname “Bravo-Too-Much” (aka “Brave-Too-Much”) for his boldness in battle. \nVisitors will explore his role in the Texas Republic\, the Mexican-American War\, the California Gold Rush\, and the founding of early California communities\, while also examining the complex history of the American frontier and the many cultures that shaped it. \nEvening program:\n5:30 pm–6:00 pm Networking\n6:00 pm–6:45 pm Presentation\n6:50 pm–7:30 pm Exhibit Tours\nLight refreshments will be served. \nBe among the very first to experience the exhibition before it opens to the public during this exclusive evening featuring: \n• Early access to the exhibition\n• A special curator’s presentation by Curatorial Director John Leysath\, sharing the research\, stories\, and historical significance behind the exhibition\n• Western-inspired refreshments and themed treats\n• Time to explore and celebrate this remarkable new exhibition with fellow western history enthusiasts \nFrom the battlefields of the Texas Republic to the halls of Hammond Castle Museum\, discover the surprising family connection that inspired generations and the extraordinary life of one of the American frontier’s most respected leaders. \nAdvance registration is required.
