Hammond Castle Museum will be dressed for the holidays inside and out. \nBegin your evening as you come upon our holiday illumination where holiday lights set the Castle and our iconic arches aglow. Then\, enter the Museum and delight in the enchanting ambiance of White Birch and Christmas trees\, meticulously arranged garlands\, festive wreaths\, and the warm embrace of candlelight that will envelop you throughout your tour of the Hammond Castle Museum. Immerse yourself in a bygone era of opulent tranquility and holiday grandeur that promises to be unlike any other experience on the North Shore. \nFollowing the advice of his mentor Alexander Graham Bell\, John Hays Hammond Jr. conducted the majority of his work in the evening. While this put Hammond at odds with the rest of the inhabitants of the castle – including his wife Irene – he concluded that working throughout the night and sleeping during the day positively impacted his work as an inventor. With this in mind\, “Candlelight tours” are offered on Thursday evenings throughout December. Guides will escort visitors through the Museum’s many rooms placing an emphasis on the Hammonds themselves and the time that they spent in their castle home. Electronic candles will be provided for optional use during the Candlelight Tours.

Romano and his work were larger-than-life\, and his concern for the human condition was the focus of most if not all of his artwork. Susan Erony will present on Romano’s work for the Federal Arts Program. \nSusan Erony is an artist in Gloucester\, whose work focuses on issues of humanity. She has exhibited extensively in Europe\, Canada\, and United States\, and her work is in numerous public and private collections. Described by The Boston Globe as “Boston’s sublime ambassadors of Pan-Latin music\,” the award-winning ensemble Sol y Canto\, led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist\, singer and composer Brian Amador\, celebrate their 30th anniversary and the release of their new album\, “En tu órbita” with a program featuring several special guests who were an important part of the group’s colorful history. The day of activities and concert will highlight the wonderful variety and heritage of Latin American music. \nHISPANIC HERITAGE DAY ACTIVITIES\n1 PM: Activity Hour & Story Time for Children\n4:30 PM: Pre-concert talk\n5 PM: Concert \n“Boston’s sublime ambassadors of Pan-Latin music”-The Boston Globe\nSol y Canto\nSol y Canto is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist\, singer and composer Brian Amador. For this special concert they are joined by their bandmates Keala Kaumeheiwa (upright bass)\, Paul Lieberman (flute\, sax and percussion) and Queralt Giralt Soler (cello\, vocals). Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions\, Sol y Canto is known for making their music accessible to Spanish- and non-Spanish speaking audiences of all ages.The video of their single\, “En tu órbita\,” was featured in the NPR Tiny Desk Contest Newsletter (out of 6\,600 submissions)! \nSol y Canto’s original songs are distinguished by poetic\, often quirky lyrics set in a framework of varied musical styles with surprising twists. They can make you dance\, laugh\, cry and sigh all in one concert. Their arrangements of classic and contemporary Latin tunes are always fresh and original. Join us at the opening reception on July 26th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. to celebrate our community and community arts!\nTo ensure a diverse range of artwork reflecting the variety of Newburyport life\, this show offers a plethora of perspectives\, media\, genres and disciplines\, from representational to abstract work and large scale painting to small artisan pieces. The Quarry Project is a continuation of Manship Artist Tsar Fedorsky’s twenty-year practice investigating the properties of black-and-white photography and how it creates abstraction from realism. Begun in 2016\, the more recent quarry photographs are a study of duality and tension. They comprise a deep exploration of the familiarity of place\, the quarries near Fedorsky’s home in Gloucester.\nVisitors can register to attend on the home page of the Manship Artists Residency website at ManshipArtists.org.

DESCRIPTION:Come see live owls up close in this indoor presentation that will introduce you to different owls and other birds of prey in our region. There are two presentations: the first one starts at 10:30 a.m. and the second one starts at 1:30 p.m.\, and both include admission to the museum. This program shows how owls use their specialized powers of sight\, hearing and flight to survive and thrive. A wealth of fact and folklore about these masters of the dark explains the natural and unnatural history of owls. A variety of live owls provides the focus of the presentation.
