DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 7\, 2025\n3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.\nJanet & William Ellery James Center\, CAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nCAM Members Free\, Non-Members $10\nRegistration is Required as space is limited. \nDesigning\, building and installing a pipe organ is often a years-long process from initial client meetings through design\, shop construction\, installation\, and voicing\, to the dedicatory concert. At this Gallery Talk\, Greg Bover will discuss the collaborative process along with the history of C. B. Fisk. \nGreg Bover retired from C.B. Fisk\, Inc. in 2020 after 42 years as Project Manager\, designer\, and Vice President for Operations. He supervised the design and construction of more than thirty Fisk instruments in churches\, concert halls\, and academic institutions across the United States and around the world\, including The Memorial Church at Harvard\, the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas\, organs at Kobe and Yokohama\, and the firm’s magnum opus at the Cathedral in Lausanne\, Switzerland. \nGreg lives in Rockport with his wife Maureen Aylward. Long active in community building\, he is a Past President of the Sawyer Free Library and the Gloucester Rotary Club. He continues to serve on the Government Affairs Council of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce\, is a Trustee of the Awesome Gloucester micro-grant foundation and is a Corporator of the Cape Ann Savings Bank. Honors include a Restoration Award from the Gloucester Historical Commission\, and citizenship awards from the Rotary Club\, Unitarian Universalist Church\, and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. An avid sailor and woodworker\, he is board president\, crew member\, and ship’s carpenter on the 122-foot\, 1926 schooner Adventure. Greg holds a Master’s Credential for vessels up to 200 tons. C.B. DESCRIPTION:Andy Volpe will print some of his Paul Revere replica copperplates\, including his latest 250th\ncommemorative print project: 3 Promissory Notes (paper money) that Revere secretly engraved & printed for the Massachusetts patriots in May 1775.\nHe plans on having some other prints\, plates\, tools and other visuals to discuss the work of Revere leading up to the American Revolution. \nThis event is funded in part by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) through the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program. This program supports the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through programs that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence\, celebrate significant ‘firsts’ in Massachusetts and commemorate the state’s past 250 years.

Join us for a guided tour of Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens\, a Colonial Revival treasure that reflects early 20th-century elegance and global influence. Once the summer home of Helen Stevens Coolidge and John Gardner Coolidge—a diplomat and descendant of Thomas Jefferson and nephew of Isabella Stewart Gardner—the historic house offers a unique glimpse into the lifestyle\, travels\, and tastes of a well-connected New England family. \nParticipants will begin with a short walk from our Garden Gateway Center and explore the first floor of the house. Every item in the home is a historic collection piece original to the couple and beautifully conserved. \nThe tour will last approximately 50-60 minutes. The first floor of the home is wheelchair accessible but we kindly ask no strollers\, food or drink in the home. \nPre-Registration is required. Space is limited. Admission includes access to the stunning formal gardens and grounds\, perfect for exploring before or after your tour. \nPre-registration is required. Refunds for this event must be requested 7 days prior to tour. SUMMARY:Methuselah's Zoo: What Nature Can Teach Us About Living Longer Lives
DESCRIPTION:Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) presents a night of science by the sea with renowned aging scientist Steven Austad\, Ph.D. \nPlease join us on Tuesday\, June 3rd at 6p to hear Dr. Austad tell stories of some extraordinary animals\, considering why\, for example\, animal species that fly live longer than earthbound species\, and why animals found in the ocean live longest of all. \nDr. Austad’s approach to studying aging differs from the usual approach found in the field of aging science. Instead of focusing on species with short lifespans like fruit flies and mice\, which are experimentally manageable but unsuccessful at combating aging\, he investigates nature’s biggest successes\, like a 400-year-old shark or a 200-year-old whale. He suggests we should research long-lived species — instead of those with short lifespans — and use them as models for discovering novel anti-aging products and processes. \nDoors open at 5:30pm and the talk begins promptly at 6pm. \nThis talk is free and open to the public\, but registration is required. \nQuestions? B. Fisk experiencing most every aspect of organ building. Primarily a reed pipe voicer\, he has also been involved in woodworking\, pipe making\, drawing and design in AutoCAD\, CNC programming and operation\, organ maintenance\, among other tasks. SUMMARY:Coastal Lecture: Awareness Inspires Conservation
DESCRIPTION:As our coastlines change\, the areas where sharks visit along the coast is changing. With all the shark-tivity in 2024\, the team at Crane Beach has been working with experts to learn more about these important top predators\, and what their presence means for the health of our coastlines. \nOne of the groups we’ve been collaborating with is the The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC)\, a nonprofit organization supporting scientific research\, educating the community\, and improving public safety. AWSC strives to increase knowledge of Atlantic white sharks to change public perception and conserve the species and ensure biologically diverse marine ecosystems. \nJoin us for a lecture with AWSC Community Engagement Manager Kristen Smith. To learn about ongoing white shark research projects being conducted and funded by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy\, how that research is impacting conservation and public safety efforts\, and up to date information on what that research has taught us. Audience members will have an opportunity to view videos and photographs during the research season and develop their knowledge of what a shark is and what it takes to conduct white shark research. \nAt the end of the program\, audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can get involved in shark and ocean conservation. \nAbout our speaker: \nKristen Smith works as the Community Engagement Manager for the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC). Kristen attended Coastal Carolina University from where she received her degree in Marine Science and aided in her university’s shark research program. Kristen has been with the AWSC since 2016. In her role\, she coordinates and manages a variety of initiatives\, including educational programs\, community outreach efforts\, the college internship program\, and social media campaigns. Kristen has been featured on platforms such as the Today Show\, Channel 7 News Boston\, and Good Morning America. These appearances have highlighted AWSC’s white shark ecotourism program and public safety initiatives related to white sharks. \nThe Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is a nonprofit organization supporting scientific research\, educating the community\, and improving public safety surrounding white sharks. DESCRIPTION:In the two and a half centuries since American Independence was declared and secured\, little attention has been spent looking into the roles of communities other than those who participated in significant events or were centers of population. Boston\, Lexington\, Concord\, & Bunker Hill play an outsized role in the public memory of the American Revolution. In this talk we will examine the hearts and minds of the people and communities across Massachusetts to understand why they would risk their lives\, liberties and fortunes for a new nation \nJonathan Lane is an historian with the Massachusetts Historical Society and the coordinator for Revolution 250\, an organization dedicated to commemorating the American Revolutionary War.

SUMMARY:Roads to Revolution Guided Bus Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 19th for the Revolutionary History Tour Shuttle\, a special collaboration between the North Andover Historical Society and the Andover Center for History and Culture! \nEmbark on an adventure through our shared heritage as we bring our two towns\, once united during the American Revolution\, back together for a day of family-friendly learning and fun. \nLearn about historical sites in “old” North Andover that stood in 1775 and helped to shape our nation’s journey to independence\, including the Paul Revere bell and Steeple Tour at North Parish Church\, the First and Second Burial Grounds and mustering grounds at Kittredge Farm and Becky’s Pond. In ‘old’ Andover\, you will visit the site of the 1776 Gunpowder Mill and take the path taken by the Minute Men on “the road to Billerica” on April 19th\, 1775. \nOur experienced guides will share captivating stories and insights of our local connections to the revolution. As the bus passes more than 24 homes\, you will hear the engaging stories and anecdotes about the people who lived in them in the 1775 era\, many who were involved in the American Revolution. \nThe bus will stop twice for passengers to get off\, one in each town: \nAt the Timothy Johnson House in North Andover\, take a short tour of the historic kitchen and dining room and enjoy a glass of lemonade.\nAt the Blanchard Upton House in Andover\, take a short garden tour and enjoy a glass of cider.\nReserve your spot on one of two shuttles (11am and 1pm). Each tour takes approximately 1.5 hours. Please note there is limited seating of 40 seats on each shuttle bus.

DESCRIPTION:NAHS is honored to possess the handwritten diary of James Stevens. This treasure chronicles his time fighting for our country’s independence from the day he took up arms until the end of the war. Linguist and NAHS facilities manager\, Antoine Trombino-Ponte\, has poured over this diary and reconstructed the 1775 voice of James Stevens. His recordings will be available for all to hear in the Rev250 exhibit at the Stevens Center. Join us as he explains his process for reconstruction the voice.

DESCRIPTION:This high tide is royalty! Here’s your chance to see the king….tide that is. Join us for a hike to learn about extreme high tides\, known as king tides\, which are happening more often due to environmental change. These extreme tides have a variety of impacts on coastal infrastructure\, including restricted access on low lying roads\, flooded buildings\, and impacts of erosion\, debris\, and salt-water intrusion/damage. The king tide also provides us with a window to the future\, illustrating what an average high tide might look like in a few decades due to sea level rise. On this hike you will learn what causes king tides\, see the tidal impacts first-hand\, and learn what The Trustees are doing to increase the coastal resilience of our treasured coastal environments. \nPlease be prepared for a moderately strenuous 1-2 mile hike over gravel trails\, grass\, and soft sand\, with some elevation gain. \nProgram Refunds/Cancellations: In the event that a program is cancelled due to severe weather\, low enrollment\, or other circumstances\, we will notify you as soon as possible by email and issue you a full refund within 14 days of the cancellation. If you cannot attend a program as planned\, contact the Trustees property 7 days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund or to be rebooked into a future available event. Refunds will not be granted for registration cancellations placed fewer than 7 days before the start of the program for any reason. There are no refunds for missed events or late arrivals. The Trustees reserves the right to change program locations\, schedules\, or instructors when necessary.
