DESCRIPTION:Stella Chen\, violin | Matthew Lipman\, viola | Brannon Cho\, cello | Evren Ozel\, piano \nViolinist Stella Chen\, winner of Gramophone’s 2023 Young Artist of the Year and First Prize of 2019 Queen Elizabeth Violin Competition\, returns to the Festival with a star-studded quartet of artists to perform Mozart’s Divertimento and Fauré’s Piano Quartet\, Op. 45. \nPROGRAM\nMOZART: Divertimento in E-flat Major\, K563\nIntermission\nFAURÉ: Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor\, Op. 45 \nSTELLA CHEN\, violin\nGramophone 2023 Young Artist of the Year Stella Chen garnered worldwide attention with her first-prize win at the 2019 Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition\, followed by the 2020 Avery Fisher Career Grant and 2020 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award. Since then\, Stella has appeared across North America\, Europe\, and Asia in numerous concerto\, recital\, and chamber music performances. She appears frequently with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center both in New York and on tour. \nStella has appeared as a chamber musician in festivals including the Ravinia\, Seattle Chamber Music and several others. Chamber music partners include Itzhak Perlman\, James Ehnes and Matthew Lipman. She is the inaugural recipient of the Robert Levin Award from Harvard University\, where she was inspired by Robert Levin himself. She received her doctorate from the Juilliard School where she now serves as teaching assistant to her longtime mentor Li Lin. Stella plays the 1720 General Kyd Stradivarius\, on generous loan from Dr. Ryuji Ueno and Rare Violins in Consortium\, Artists and Benefactors Collaborative\, and the 1708 Huggins Stradivarius courtesy of the Nippon Music Foundation.

Currently an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon\, the band has never sounded fresher or stronger. Singer Phil Pemberton brings his sweet and soulful vocals and adds another bright new dimension to the jazzy\, jump- blues musical roots. Their winning combination of jump\, swing\, blues\, R&B and soul remains their calling card\, as does their ability to fill the dance floor. Along with bassist John Turner\, trumpeter Carl Gerhard\, drummer Mike Coffey\, keyboardist Rusty Scott\, baritone and tenor saxophonist Alek Razdan\, tenor and alto saxophonist Rich Lataille\, Roomful keeps on rockin’ into 2024.

DESCRIPTION:That’s not necessarily a revelation\, but more like a huge understatement\, and it really comes into focus at this point in Kenny’s amazing career. This is a musician who has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide\, owns the best-selling instrumental record of all time with 1992’s 12-times-platinum Breathless\, has the number one Christmas record of all time with 1994’s 8- times platinum Miracles\, and whose song “Going Home” has\, improbably\, become the official end-of-work-day anthem in China. At the heart of those achievements is Kenny’s ability to convey deep emotional resonance with his saxophone\, a skill never more apparent than on Innocence\, his 20th studio album and fifth for Concord Records. \nThe 12-track project’s theme is lullabies\, which have existed for thousands of years not only as a means of soothing babies to sleep but also to impart cultural and familial traditions. “Lullabies are very special to me\,” says Kenny\, who has been mulling an album with this musical focus for several years and even mentioned the idea in passing in Penny Lane’s acclaimed 2021 HBO documentary on him\, Listening to Kenny G. “They hold a special place in my heart. It’s the melodies. They are beautiful and timeless and whenever I hear them\, wonderful memories start rushing back to me.”
