SUMMARY:A Band Of Brothers
DESCRIPTION:7/19/25\nReserved Rail Stools and G.A. Standing.\n8:00pm Doors / 8:30pm Show\n21+ / Positive I.D. Required $23-$33 \nA Band Of Brothers” isn’t just an Allman Brothers tribute band; they’re a powerhouse\, uniting the top-tier talent of the East Coast. The brainchild of ace Boston guitarists Ryan Taylor and Johnny Trama\, this collective\, more than a mere homage\, harness the Allman Brothers tradition as a vehicle to bring a unique and exciting experience every night. \nMatt Zeiner began his professional music career touring with Matt “Guitar” Murphy\, who exposed him to a fusion of blues and jazz. His career took a significant turn in 2000 when Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band recruited him as a keyboardist and vocalist\, leading to a fruitful collaboration and tour. Zeiner’s own songwriting flourished during this time\, contributing notably to the band’s repertoire. After four years touring\, he returned home\, focused on original material\, and formed his own band. They achieved recognition with their 2007 release\, “Live on a Summer Night\,” and continued to evolve through collaborations with artists like Melvin Sparks and Jeff Pevar. Zeiner’s band has since been working on an ambitious new album\, showcasing his ability to craft infectious melodies with tight\, dynamic arrangements across a range of soul\, R&B\, and rock genres. Johnny Trama on guitar conjures up riffs and rhythms that speak volumes. His journey through the realms of rock\, soul\, and blues\, playing with icons like Bettye LaVette and Jesse Dee\, has armed him with a mystical musical prowess. Jesse Williams on bass has played with everyone from Duke Robillard\, Louis Walker to North Mississippi Allstars. Tom Arey behind the drums has played with artists like Peter Wolf’s Midnight Travelers. Brendan Tommaney on percussion has played with groups like Pink Talking Fish\, Tommaney and brings a jazz-infused sensibility that adds depth and dimension to the band’s sound.

SUMMARY:Art is Love: A Talk and Concert at PEM
DESCRIPTION:Know before you go\nIn-person event\nLocation: Morse Auditorium \nIncluded with admission; preregistration encouraged. \nThis program includes moderately loud live music (amplified sound and percussion). \nJoin us for an afternoon of music and dialogue exploring the creative process in contemporary songwriting and performance. This conversation among original works by artists Muriel Teodori\, Kessada and Steve Nieve pays tribute to two of the most iconic figures in modern music: Tom Waits and Elvis Costello. \nThrough conversation\, live performance and personal storytelling\, the trio invites the audience to reflect on the art of creation\, the power of love and the eternal interplay between control and spontaneity in artistic expression. \nThe Talk: Three Angles on Artistic Creation \n1. What is the process of creation in art?\nMuriel Teodori explores the psychological and philosophical dimensions of creativity. \n2. Improvisation: Does it really exist?\nIs improvisation truly spontaneous\, or is it the result of years of structure and discipline? Steve Nieve draws from his classical training and rock experience to explore improvisation as both freedom and illusion. \n3. Production: Can it be Perfect? Control or Freedom?\nIn the age of digital tools and infinite takes\, Kessada questions the obsession with perfection. \nThe Concert: Art is Love \nOriginal songs are woven together with deeply personal interpretations of works by Tom Waits and Elvis Costello — two masters of storytelling through music. Each song\, each note\, is a continuation of the conversation.

Bastos – Vocals DD is no stranger to the stage. She began singing in church at the age of 5 years old. Music has always been her passion. D.D. earned second chair in the All-Eastern Honors Ensemble representing Massachusetts which garnered her a scholarship. After college D.D. began performing with local bands throughout NE which led to the inception of her band DD & The Road Kings. Her work put her closely associated with the fraternity that is; Roomful of Blues\, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones\, The Broadcasters and the dozens of splinter groups who have branched off — shaping many other New England Blues bands. Certainly\, when three of them show up on D.D. and the Road Kings’ album Lover Bird\, which was well received by critics and fans alike\, there is a common thread that can be traced back to the ’60s Blues revival. D.D. is also a Choral Director in the public school system with 20+ years as a private music teacher. Her love of singing is what fuels her soulful and powerful performances. \nChris Vachon – Guitar Chris is a true multi-talent. His prowess as a guitar slinger is well documented\, and his strengths as a producer and songwriter grow from album to album. He produced the band’s nine most recent albums—There Goes the Neighborhood (1998)\, Watch You When You Go (2001)\, Live at Wolf Trap (2002) the Grammy nominated That’s Right! He has worked in several long-standing acts in Rhode Island (blues\, jazz\, and swing) and has played many one-off gigs with various bands throughout the region. Upon retirement he performed with local blues artist Chris Stoval Brown and other wellknown blues artist in the Boston area. As part of a weekly Jazz series he has performed with Mike Renzi and Grey Sargent both members of Tony Bennett’s band and other renown jazz artist. He also performs with 50s doo wop group”The Diamonds” when they perform in New England. He studied with renown drum instructors Alan Dawson and Gary Chaffee. It was Rich’s interest in the swinging bands of the ’30s and ’40s that led Roomful to forge the distinctive sound that has become the band’s trademark. A man who can play both sides of the fence\, lyrically tender or blisteringly hot\, Rich has a big\, warm tone that is always jam-packed with feeling. His melodic inventiveness reflects the depth and breadth of his wide-ranging influences. Rich worked with various local and high- school bands before beginning his long-term relationship with Roomful. \nCraig Thomas – Baritone and Tenor Sax Craig was born in Washington DC and grew up in Maryland. SUMMARY:Captain Jack and the Strangers - Jack's Bday Bash!
DESCRIPTION:8/2/2025\n$32 Reserved Seats / $26 GA Standing\n21+ / Positive I.D. Required.\n7p doors / 8p show \nCaptain Jack & The Strangers\, comprised of six individuals hailing from Gloucester\, MA (45 min north of Boston) with over 30 years experience in music and performance. The band is fronted by 24 year old piano phenom\, Jack Favazza\, who brings a youthful exuberance to this classic American songbook. This group plays a wide catalogue of music from America’s own Piano Man\, Billy Joel\, spanning his entire musical career from the 70’s\, 80’s\, and 90’s. Playing both well known hits\, alongside of b-side fan favorites\, there are surely songs to appease any audience member. \nWith a long standing passion for the music of Billy Joel\, the band formed in late 2022\, after founding members had seen a performance of Billy at the legendary Fenway Park in Boston\, MA during the summer of that same year. That performance solidified the decision to perform Billy Joel’s music to as many people as possible. Gloucester has a long history of talented artists\, and Captain Jack & The Strangers is no different. A local “supergroup” of musicians from well known acts such as Groove Therapy\, The Spynz\, Mystery Meat\, and the Neon 90’s have formed this group to bring you the high energy\, soft somber moments\, and everything in between that Billy Joel is so well known for. Listening to any song at a show will surely invoke your favorite memories and emotions when you hear a specific Billy Joel song done in a way that only Captain Jack & The Strangers can do.

This unique sound\, described by the band as a “musical gumbo”\, has allowed the Dirty Dozen to tour across five continents and more than thirty countries\, record twelve studio albums and collaborate with a range of artists from Modest Mouse to Widespread Panic to Norah Jones. Forty-five plus years later\, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a world-famous music machine whose name is synonymous with genre-bending romps and high-octane performances. \nRoger Lewis – Baritone Sax/Vocals\nGregory Davis – Trumpet/Vocals\nKirk Joseph – Sousaphone Trevarri\nHuff-Boone – Tenor Sax/Vocals\nStephen Walker – Trombone/Vocals\nJulian Addison – Drums\nTakeshi Shimmura – Guitar \nTHE HISTORY OF THE DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND In 1977\, The Dirty Dozen Social Aid and Pleasure Club in New Orleans began showcasing a traditional Crescent City brass band. It was a joining of two proud\, but antiquated\, traditions at the time: social aid and pleasure clubs dated back over a century to a time when black southerners could rarely afford life insurance\, and the clubs would provide proper funeral arrangements. Brass bands\, early predecessors of jazz as we know it\, would often follow the funeral procession playing somber dirges\, then once the family of the deceased was out of earshot\, burst into jubilant dance tunes as casual onlookers danced in the streets. By the late ’70s\, few of either existed. The Dirty Dozen Social Aid and Pleasure Club decided to assemble this group as a house band\, and over the course of these early gigs\, the seven-member ensemble adopted the venue’s name: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
