In her TedTalk about difficult conversations called “Sing\, Don’t Shout—An Alternative Approach” Matthews spoke about being born and raised in a small town in southeastern NorthCarolina by an A.M.E.preacher\, and how she witnessed the power of music from an early age. She has never let go of that tenet of vulnerability. “Duvekot has gotten hotter\, faster than any local songwriter in recent memory. Her songs feel at once fresh faced and firmly rooted\, driven by the whispery sensuality of her voice. She believes in the redemptive power of the shared secret; and is utterly unafraid to mine the darkest corners of her life for songs that turn fear into resilience and isolation into community.” The Boston Globe \nConsidered by many to be an integral part of the national folk scene – and one of the originators of the finally recognized R&B/Folk/Jazz crossover-sub-genre – this Boston-based stalwart was born and raised in\nthe Philadelphia area. In 1992\, Shawn Colvin invited him to be special guest on her Fat City tour. “With the voice of an angel\, the wit of a devil\, and the guitar playing of a god…”\, swooned The Fort Worth Star Telegram about one of those shows. Alexa “lights up rooms when she [plays]” (JazzTimes). Her radiant spirit and artistry uplifts and inspires her audiences one performance at a time. Alexa tours worldwide with Cecile McLorin Salvant\, ARTEMIS\, and the Alexa Tarantino Quartet. She appears frequently with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Her records (Firefly\, Clarity\, Winds of Change) and compositions have consistently topped jazz radio charts\, and her discography includes 25+ released recordings as a leader and/or sidewoman. Tarantino is in-demand internationally as an energetic and impactful clinician\, mentor\, and coach and also represents Jazz at Lincoln Center as a visiting educator for various programs with students of all ages and levels. DESCRIPTION:Kristina Martin & Thomas Smoker\, co-directors \nRockport Music’s Cape Ann Youth Chorus brings a program full of fun and joy with their inaugural winter concert. \nABOUT THE CAPE ANN YOUTH CHORUS \nRockport Music’s Cape Ann Youth Chorus provides a comprehensive musical experience in an inclusive and supportive environment for young singers ages 8 and up. Singers participate in weekly rehearsals\, concerts at different community events and at the Shalin Liu Performance Center. He is the founder and Managing Director of Rasa String Quartet\, is a Co-Artistic Director of Palaver Strings and is the Career Advising Manager at the New England Conservatory of Music. In this talk\, Kiyoshi shares how to design a happy\, healthy and fulfilling career as a musician. \nKiyoshi is passionate about using music to catalyze social change and empowering young musicians in developing the business skills and holistic lifestyle necessary to design meaningful and sustainable careers. Kiyoshi is a NASM certified personal trainer and graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2017. He has over 7 years of experience working in the wellness industry\, working first as a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness Club\, and then launching his personal coaching business where he has served over 30 musicians — helping them achieve their career and wellness goals. \nAdditionally\, Kiyoshi has given workshops at the New England Conservatory of Music\, the Longy School of Music\, Palaver Strings\, and Vital Village Network on topics such as: how to make behavior change\, designing a fulfilling and sustainable career\, entrepreneurship for the modern musician\, confidence and mindset\, and stress management. \nFree\, reservations encouraged.

SUMMARY:Kids at The Cabot: Birds of a Feather
DESCRIPTION:Birds of a Feather is a new American indie family superduo consisting of two kids music luminaries – Brooklyn’s\, longtime children’s music pioneer\, Suzi Shelton and Filipina-American Little Miss Ann of Chicago. Individually\, Suzi and Ann have each maintained a strong presence in the national kids music scene\, performing with their own bands across the country and producing many award-winning albums on their own. For over a decade\, these longtime friends have also been inspired to perform together regularly at esteemed venues including the Kids stage at Lollapalooza (Chicago)\, The Overture Center (Madison)\, Jewish Museum (NYC)\, and Wolftrap (DC) to name a few. Birds of a Feather released their hit Debut Album “Rock Together” in June and are loving performing for audiences throughout the country – including here at the Cabot! \nThese shows are best for toddler to early elementary age and we let kids take over the theater!
