SUMMARY:Los Lobos
DESCRIPTION:10/9/24\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. 7:00pm Doors / 8:00pm Show\nGA Standing and Partial Seating. $75-$65\nNo Refunds or Exchanges \nIt’s a matter of time. 50 years to be exact. And in that time Los Lobos have created an unprecedented body of work\, a legacy of greatness. The numbers are staggering: 100+ gigs a year for five decades running\, crossing millions of miles to rock millions of fans. And that’s just at the live shows. In between they’ve recorded 17 studio albums\, 7 live LPs\, 3 compilations\, 2 EPs\, 2 DVDs\, and contributed 40+ guest appearances on their friends’ recordings — all garnering 5 Grammys\, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction\, the ALMA Richie Valens Pioneer Award\, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors\, Congressional recognitions\, plus countless “Keys to the City” and “Los Lobos Day” celebrations. And those are just a few of the highlights. But beyond all the hoopla and applause (and the source of it all\, really) is the tremendous heart. Rather\, hearts. Cinco corazones. Five blood brothers who have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others\, working for peace and justice\, penning some of the most literate and important music of their time\, transforming the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope\, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. The young wolves were weaned on late-night radio’s soul\, R&B\, and doo-wop. Were cured through the African-American currents of the blues\, jazz\, and rock ‘n’ roll. An amalgam. As proud Chicanos\, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots — nourished by Norteña and rancheras\, buoyed by bolero and cumbias\, soaring on the rhythms of son huasteco and son jarocho. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent\, throughout the global community. Kids in Antwerp now know about Aztlán. Residents of Luxor and Ghana are crooning Lalo Guerrero. People from Laos and Bulgaria are belting “La Bamba” — all thanks to The Wolves as cultural ambassadors. Talk about a living legacy. Talk about a productive half century. And in the true rebel spirit\, they did it all on their own terms\, against formula. For the ages. To our delight. Quite simply\, they are one of the tightest\, one of the best\, one of the most prolific bands ever. And\, amazingly\, with the original founding members as the pack the entire time. Unprecedented. As their liner notes put it\, quite simply: “Los Lobos still are David Hidalgo\, Louie Pérez\, Jr.\, Cesar Rosas\, Conrad Lozano\, Steve Berlin.”

SUMMARY:Jake Shimabukuro
DESCRIPTION:Music is a gift\, and the ability to play it is a blessing. Be grateful for both. – Anonymous \nWalking up the creaky wooden steps\, there are what seems like hundreds of slippers all around the front door. Soft music floats through the air\, inviting me to the back yard. Aunties and Uncles fill every lawn chair and the keiki run around in the freshly cut grass. There’s a warm breeze blowing and at least a dozen friends strum along\, kanikapila style\, to a tune we all know and everyone sings the words to. These are the songs of my life. I am home. And I am grateful. \nHe has captivated audiences around the world with his unique and dynamic style. With his mother as his first teacher of the instrument\, Jake embraced a deep love and respect for the `ukulele and has explored new and unexpected ways to push the boundaries of what was possible on the humble four-strings. Each album has showcased his mastery of the instrument and his ability to weave together diverse genres to create a cohesive and captivating musical experience. He is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and exciting musicians of his generation\, changing the perception of the instrument itself and breaking barriers of what kind of music it is capable of. \nEnter his newest\, and most personal album yet. Grateful is a coming home for Jake. With a literal who’s who of Hawai`i based musicians\, this collection of songs is performed live\, in studio with Jake’s friends\, contemporaries\, mentors\, and heroes – all kanikapila style in a return to his roots. Grateful is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed duets album with artists from Willie Nelson\, Ziggy Marley and Bette Midler to Jimmy Buffett\, Jack Johnson and Kenny Loggins. It was these collaborations that inspired him to go back to the beginning and play with the musicians who first inspired him as he was growing up in Hawai`i. Jake shares a connection with each and every artist on this album. \nIn addition to his impeccable musicianship\, Jake is also a gifted storyteller\, weaving together musical narratives that draw listeners in and leave them spellbound. He wanted to bring the power of each artist’s stories to this album.

In 2023\, this lead to her participating in WXPN’s Black Opry Residency in Philadelphia. \nIn a groundbreaking move\, Givertz is currently working on her sophomore album\, which exclusively features BIPOC\, LGBTQ+\, and/or disabled musicians. This collaborative effort not only amplifies underrepresented voices but also underscores her commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the music industry. \nGivertz’s talent shines bright\, earning her acclaim for her captivating performances. She’s been nominated for Boston Music Awards and received the City of Boston’s Extraordinary Women Award for her contributions to music and community. DESCRIPTION:The time of Convivencia in Spain (800 to 1492) was a period of cultural harmony shared by three faiths. The poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca and others draw inspiration from the poets of that earlier time. Convivencia translates to ‘living together’. This poetry…made a profound impact on Spain’s Generation of ’27\, but\, above all\, influenced the work of Federico Garcia. \nThe Diminished Prophets present the poetry and song of Federico Garcia Lorca and contemporary poetry inspired by him. The words are read by renowned poets\, Rhina Espaillat and Alfred Nicol\, the guitar accompaniment is by John Tavano\, with Roger Kimball on bass and Shannon Muhs on vocals.

SUMMARY:MAY ERLEWINE
DESCRIPTION:One of the Midwest’s most prolific and passionate songwriters\, May Erlewine has a gift for writing songs of substance that feel both fresh and soulfully familiar. Balancing her heartbreak with an empowered and emboldened spirit\, she stresses the importance of environmental advocacy\, social justice\, creative empowerment and community building as necessary work in our world. \nMay Erleine’s ability to emotionally engage with an audience has earned her a dedicated following far beyond her Michigan roots. In her quest to find her most authentic self\, Erlewine gifts each listener with a powerful\, emotional experience that immediately connects us. \nRaised in a home full of art and music\, Erlewine began writing songs at a very young age. As a teenager she hitchhiked across the country\, honing her skills as a performer and absorbing the kind of stories and landscapes that would inform her music. Her songs show a very real connection and concern with everyday folk. Drawing from a wide variety of influences to create her sound\, lyrically\, her songs are rooted in hard-wrought wisdom\, joy and sorrow\, simplicity and stories from her own experiences. They wash over the audience like a tender hug. May is a magnetic solo performer and is also often supported by her carefully chosen backing bands. \nErlewine uses her music as a platform for positive change. She considers her job a service-oriented one and carries the torch of the folk-singer activist. Her voice on stage encourages connectedness and stresses the importance of environmental advocacy\, social justice\, creative empowerment and community building as necessary work for all of us. \nErlewine’s music has touched people all over the world. Her words have held solace for weary hearts\, offered a light in the darkness\, and held space for the pain and joy of being alive in these times. She is a true artist\, an anthem\, and another example of why we need to listen to women. We need to hear these stories. When she starts to sing\, there’s no way around it: The time is now. \nPlease Note: For some non-classical concerts\, the window behind the stage may need to be covered for acoustical purposes. We do not always know which artists will need the window closed\, but at a certain level of amplification\, it is necessary.

SUMMARY:Lez Zeppelin
DESCRIPTION:9/27/24\nReserved floor & rail seating and G.A. standing. 7:30pm doors / 8:15pm show.\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. $48-$36 \nFounded in 2004 by New York guitarist\, Steph Paynes\, the all-girl quartet\, LEZ ZEPPELIN\, has since gained unanimous critical acclaim as one of the most exciting live acts around\, becoming the first female rock act to pay homage to Led Zeppelin and to garner rave reviews across the board. LEZ ZEPPELIN stays true to the musically audacious spirit of the original\, delivering the legendary rock band’s blistering arrangements and monstrous sound note-for- note at sold-out frenzied shows around the world. In June\, 2013\, Jimmy Page attended their show in London and said of the group\, “They played the Led Zeppelin music with an extraordinary sensuality and an energy and passion that highlighted their superbmusicianship.” \nThe thing that sets LEZ ZEPPELIN apart is the seamless and unique way they inject their gender-bending performance into the original material. They have been featured on major television including the BBC\, CNN\, ABC\, CBS\, MTV\, VH-1\, FOX and radio worldwide. The group’s first studio album was produced by legendary producer/engineer\, Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin\, Jimi Hendrix). The group’s second LP\, Lez Zeppelin I\, is an authentic re- make of Led Zeppelin’s first album\, using the very same vintage equipment employed by Led in 1968. Produced by Perry A. Margouleff (Paul Rogers) and William Wittman (Cyndi Lauper)\, the musicianship\, attention to detail and passion in the playing takes LEZ ZEPPELIN’s homage to an entirely new and unprecedented level in this industry. Both records are distributed throughout the United States\, Japan and Europe.

SUMMARY:Angel Olsen (Solo): Songs From The Archive
DESCRIPTION:WITH KYLE RAY ON SUPPORT \nAngel Olsen is a songwriter\, musician\, performer and director of music videos. She delivers vulnerable songs with a distinctive warble informed by vintage country. Her early\, spare\, acoustic songs grew increasingly lush and dramatic across her several albums. Olsen debuted with the reverb-heavy solo indie folk of 2010’s Strange Cacti\, expanding to an alt-country power trio for her third album\, 2014’s Burn Your Fire for No Witness\, her Billboard 200 debut. Two years later\, My Woman reached a career-high number 47 on the chart. While maintaining an intimate character and a haunting sound reinforced by stylized echo\, Olsen recorded 2019’s All Mirrors with a 14-piece orchestra. The follow-up\, 2020’s Whole New Mess\, offered an overhauled solo version of All Mirrors that included a pair of original songs. Inspired by both love and loss tied up in coming out as queer\, her sixth studio album\, Big Time\, followed in 2022. \nShe has performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and Austin City Limits TV\, and has been profiled in The New York Times Magazine\, Rolling Stone\, and Pitchfork\, to name a few. Her albums are regularly regarded as some of the highest lauded albums each year of their release. Olsen has collaborated with artists including Mark Ronson\, Sharon Van Etten\, Cass McCombs\, Hamilton Leithauser\, Marissa Nadler\, Jim James\, Madi Diaz\, and more. \nOn this tour\, Angel will be performing solo\, exploring songs from her entire catalog\, digging into songs and eras she does not often get to when performing with her band. \n– excerpts taken from Fred Thomas\, All Music

A radio constant\, they were a favorite on the college circuit and became one of the busiest touring groups in the US working with such acts as The Byrds\, Bonnie Raitt\, Little Feat\, The J. Geils Band\, Eddie Money\, Manfred Mann\, Jonathan Edwards\, Mahavishnu Orchestra\, Emmylou Harris\, Gary Wright\, Robert Palmer\, Randy Newman\, NRBQ and many more including the now famous Frampton Comes Alive tour\, and the progressive Yes Fragile tour – playing arenas from Coast to Coast. \nWhile the original group dis-banded in the early ’80s\, Jon kept performing with original drummer Eric Parker and continued writing and producing into the ’90s\,when he returned to Nashville to begin recording again on his own. He’s turned out five solo albums including 2015’s “TALK”\, a cohesive selection of his best songs to date. He has co-written with some of the finest writers in the country including Darrell Scott\, Gary Nicholson\, Jaime Kyle\, John Bohlinger\, Angelo\, Sally Barris and Angela Kaset. Jon is currently touring solo\, duo and with his highly entertaining band featuring Steve Roues on bass and harmony vocals and Jim Chapdelaine on guitar/vocals\, who co-produced several of Jon’s records. Jon’s continued writing and travels have kept him engaged in Nashville where the original bands first albums were recorded with Norbert Putnam. He has continued performing nationally and writing steadily with many of the finest writers that embody the best of the American music scene.
