SUMMARY:Angel Olsen (Solo): Songs From The Archive
DESCRIPTION:WITH KYLE RAY ON SUPPORT \nAngel Olsen is a songwriter\, musician\, performer and director of music videos. She delivers vulnerable songs with a distinctive warble informed by vintage country. Her early\, spare\, acoustic songs grew increasingly lush and dramatic across her several albums. Olsen debuted with the reverb-heavy solo indie folk of 2010’s Strange Cacti\, expanding to an alt-country power trio for her third album\, 2014’s Burn Your Fire for No Witness\, her Billboard 200 debut. Two years later\, My Woman reached a career-high number 47 on the chart. While maintaining an intimate character and a haunting sound reinforced by stylized echo\, Olsen recorded 2019’s All Mirrors with a 14-piece orchestra. The follow-up\, 2020’s Whole New Mess\, offered an overhauled solo version of All Mirrors that included a pair of original songs. Inspired by both love and loss tied up in coming out as queer\, her sixth studio album\, Big Time\, followed in 2022. \nShe has performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and Austin City Limits TV\, and has been profiled in The New York Times Magazine\, Rolling Stone\, and Pitchfork\, to name a few. Her albums are regularly regarded as some of the highest lauded albums each year of their release. Olsen has collaborated with artists including Mark Ronson\, Sharon Van Etten\, Cass McCombs\, Hamilton Leithauser\, Marissa Nadler\, Jim James\, Madi Diaz\, and more. \nOn this tour\, Angel will be performing solo\, exploring songs from her entire catalog\, digging into songs and eras she does not often get to when performing with her band. \n– excerpts taken from Fred Thomas\, All Music

Since first picking up a guitar at 10 years old\, the New York native has released 10 albums between his solo career and the Pousette-Dart Band. \n“Pousette-Dart’s compositions brim with optimism\, introspection\, and subtle grace.” – Performing Songwriter \nThe Pousette-Dart Band carved a place in the landscape of American music in the 1970s. A radio constant\, they were a favorite on the college circuit and became one of the busiest touring groups in the US working with such acts as The Byrds\, Bonnie Raitt\, Little Feat\, The J. Geils Band\, Eddie Money\, Manfred Mann\, Jonathan Edwards\, Mahavishnu Orchestra\, Emmylou Harris\, Gary Wright\, Robert Palmer\, Randy Newman\, NRBQ and many more including the now famous Frampton Comes Alive tour\, and the progressive Yes Fragile tour – playing arenas from Coast to Coast. \nWhile the original group dis-banded in the early ’80s\, Jon kept performing with original drummer Eric Parker and continued writing and producing into the ’90s\,when he returned to Nashville to begin recording again on his own. He has co-written with some of the finest writers in the country including Darrell Scott\, Gary Nicholson\, Jaime Kyle\, John Bohlinger\, Angelo\, Sally Barris and Angela Kaset. Jon is currently touring solo\, duo and with his highly entertaining band featuring Steve Roues on bass and harmony vocals and Jim Chapdelaine on guitar/vocals\, who co-produced several of Jon’s records. Jon’s continued writing and travels have kept him engaged in Nashville where the original bands first albums were recorded with Norbert Putnam. He has continued performing nationally and writing steadily with many of the finest writers that embody the best of the American music scene.

SUMMARY:Rosanne Cash

In addition to regular touring\, Cash has partnered in programming collaborations with Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, SFJAZZ\, the Minnesota Orchestra\, and the Library of Congress. She served as artist-in-residence at New York University and in 2018 and 2023 she was a resident artistic director at SFJAZZ. \nAlong with many other honors and awards\, Cash received the 2021 Edward MacDowell Medal\, awarded since 1960 to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to American culture. She is the first woman composer to receive this prestigious honor. Last month she was elected as an Honorary American member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. \n‘I consider artists to be in the service industry; the premier service industry for the heart and soul. I am curious to a pathological degree and the Sword of Time hangs over me\, and those two things— curiosity and the hourglass— make me feel more urgent than ever to connect\, to find community\, and to create. It doesn’t matter what the world thinks\, it only matters that what is unsaid and what is unseen is given form and has a voice.’

SUMMARY:BLKBOK
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Detroit’s inner-city\, BLKBOK (born Charles Wilson IIl)\, grew up in a music-filled house. While his parents and siblings were all musically inclined little Charles could always be found walking his chubby fingers up and down the piano keys. His Mom had no choice but to nurture her baby’s keyboard obsession and by the time he was 8\, BLKBOK was an acclaimed piano prodigy\, winning statewide accolades and college-level competitions. \nWhen it came to music\, most of the kids he grew up with pursued hip-hop adopting rapper names. However\, it’s no coincidence that Charles chose the name BLKBOK\, which echoes that of one of the greatest pianists and composers of all time. The tag is also an apt reflection of the elements that have contributed to the artist’s identity and symbolizes his colorful journey from pop and hip-hop culture to his critically acclaimed\, neo-classical debut album Black Book\, and various Mixtape projects and collaborations. \nBLKBOK is no stranger to the industry grind\, having hit the road throughout his career as a lead pianist or musical director with artists including Rihanna\, Justin Timberlake\, Demi Lovato\, Cirque Du Soleil\, John Mayer and more. BLKBOK’s explosive and immersive live music performances engage his audience with his incredible talent and channels his experience from sharing the stage with the World’s biggest performers. \nBLKBOK’s critically-acclaimed debut album Black Book\, served as a founding cornerstone at the Juneteenth Foundation’s Freedom Concert. His first Mixtape release\, (VRARI\, and current Mixtape project Angels Watching Over Me\, with world-renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee\, illustrate the innovative and disruptive musical landscape that is BLKBOK.

This album made an impressive debut at #2 on the Billboard Blues chart\, behind only Slash’s juggernaut “Orgy of the Damned.” The Beaumont native’s career\, spanning multiple decades\, showcases his versatility as a chart-topping songwriter\, guitar virtuoso\, author\, frontman\, sideman\, producer\, and relentless road warrior. From his early days with the Road Kings\, where he seamlessly blended Texas Rockabilly and Country with Punk Rock’s raw energy\, Dayton has been a trailblazer. His innovative style earned him critical acclaim and paved the way for collaborations with music’s legends. Over the years\, his partnerships have included blues sensation Samantha Fish on the Grammy-nominated “Death Wish Blues\,” country icons like Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings; Johnny Cash and Glenn Campbell\, rock rebels such as Duff McKagan and Glenn Danzig\, and visionary horror filmmaker Rob Zombie. Amidst this diverse body of work\, Dayton’s solo albums stand as a testament to his genre- defying artistry\, solidifying his reputation as a roots-rock renaissance man. \nCollaborating with Shooter Jennings\, renowned for his Grammy-winning work with artists Brandi Carlisle and Tanya Tucker\, Jesse Dayton once again evolves with The Hard Way Blues. Building on his signature outlaw sound\, Dayton explains\, “I wanted to make something that reflected where I’m at right now; so\, we turned a musical corner and embraced a big sound with a lot of ripping\, bluesy guitar leads. Sometimes\, it sounds like Freddie King. Sometimes\, it sounds like Jimmy Page. This record was completely liberating for me because it goes back to so many of my longtime influences. I don’t care about genres\, trends\, or buzz words — I just care about being truthful to my own vision\, and that’s what The Hard Way Blues allowed me to do.” Crafted in the heart of Hollywood\, ” The Hard Way Blues stands as a testament to Dayton’s esteemed career\, meticulously blending his rowdy spirit with timeless influences and showcasing his versatility and artistry in an irresistibly melodic collection of American music.

SUMMARY:Jeffrey Foucault
DESCRIPTION:9/14/24\n21+ / Positive I.D. Required. 7:00pm Doors\, 8:00pm Show\nReserved floor and rail seating and Partial G.A Standing. $35-$25 \nErik Koskinen will open the show. \nIn two decades on the road Jeffrey Foucault has become one of the most distinctive voices in American music\, refining a sound instantly recognizable for its simplicity and emotional power. With a string of critically acclaimed studio albums – “Stark\, literate songs that are as wide open as the landscape of his native Midwest” (The New Yorker)\, “Beat-up troubadour folk whittled to dolorous perfection” (Uncut)\, “Songwriting Brilliance\,” (Irish Times) – he’s built a brick-and-mortar international touring career and a devoted following\, one that includes luminaries like Van Dyke Parks\, Greil Marcus\, and Don Henley. \nIn September of 2024 Jeffrey Foucault will release THE UNIVERSAL FIRE (Fluff & Gravy\, 9/6/24)\, his first album of entirely new material since 2018. A series of high-voltage performances cut live in one room\, the album is both a working wake – Foucault lost his best friend and drummer Billy Conway\, to cancer in 2021 – and a meditation on the nature of beauty\, artifact\, and loss. \nAugmenting Foucault’s all-star band with members of Calexico and Bon Iver (drummer John Convertino and producer/saxophonist Mike Lewis) THE UNIVERSAL FIRE sets Conway’s death against the massive 2008 fire at the Universal Studios lot in California that destroyed the master recordings of some of our bedrock American music\, to interrogate ideas about mortality\, legacy\, meaning\, and calling.

SUMMARY:Rockport Celtic Festival: OPENING NIGHT: WESTBOUND FROM SWEDEN
DESCRIPTION:This night celebrates polskas\, polkas and everything in between as we highlight the strong connections between our Swedish neighbors and their lasting impact on American culture and music. Few musicians alive today hold such influence over the Global acoustic music scene as Swedish folk group Väsen. Joining them are influential American instrumentalist duo Bruce Molsky and Darol Anger and Boston-based Uilleann piper\, Joey Abarta. \nCurrently touring as a duo\, their nuanced arrangements and tight ensemble playing have touched every corner of the contemporary music scene from bands such as Crooked Still to Snarky Puppy. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these guys live! Also featured on this concert are American folk music idols Darol Anger and Bruce Molsky\, who bring their respective musical backgrounds in Old Time and bluegrass that have inspired a whole new generation of American folk musicians. Holding down the polkas this evening is internationally acclaimed\, Boston-based uilleann piper Joey Abarta\, celebrating the release of his latest album King of the Blind featuring historic Irish harp and pipe repertoire and the iconic beauty of solo pipes. Don’t miss this musical feast bringing together the best of the old and the new across Western folk music today. \nPlease Note: For some non-classical concerts\, the window behind the stage may need to be covered for acoustical purposes. We do not always know which artists will need the window closed\, but at a certain level of amplification\, it is necessary.

SUMMARY:NATURALLY 7
DESCRIPTION:The hills are alive with the sound of … NATURALLY 7! Yes\, the boys are going to the movies to produce some of the greatest movie music ever in their own amazing style. Back by popular demand\, a cappella sensation Naturally 7 has catapulted the genre well into the 21st century by reinventing it with their distinct style of “vocal play.” \nStunning! Sensational! Fantastic!—those are just a few of the reactions when someone experiences NATURALLY 7 for the first time. It’s a universal language because that same reaction has erupted throughout Europe\, the USA\, Asia\, Australia and just about everywhere around this music-loving planet. \nIt would be easy to say that they are the unsung heroes of music but that would be totally wrong because NATURALLY 7 are not ‘unsung’ and they certainly can sing – plus some! They not only provide the voices of song but they provide the sound of the instruments as well! Yes\, they brilliantly create their own backing band without any real instruments at all\, and guess what? The sound they create is Stunning! Sensational! Fantastic! Really? Oh yes! That’s why NATURALLY 7 has toured in support of Michael Bublé so many times as well as being personally requested to work with global stars like Diana Ross\, Stevie Wonder\, Lionel Ritchie\, Quincy Jones\, Coldplay and numerous other greats. What makes them so special? Why are they in such demand and constantly being asked on guest on major TV shows all over the world? It’s partly because of who they are\, but mostly\, it’s because of what they do. They are an a cappella group plus some! Perhaps we should ask founder\, musical director arranger\, baritone and pretty talented rapper Roger Thomas to introduce us properly to the magnificent NATURALLY 7. \n“It really began when my brother Warren and I moved to New York from Manchester—yes\, we were two English kids. Our dad had a gospel group which had continually been touring Britain before we moved to the States and so\, as you can imagine\, we were brought up in a musical family and also a musical family that performed. “Well we grew up properly in the Bronx and then in Queens and just about anyone who was anyone in music appeared in New York so we were there taking it all on board and loving Hip Hop which was in its early days then. So our influences were Dad\, the stars of the day\, music and the thrill of performance. We have had some great stepping stones on this journey. We have had many great music stars come to see us – that is very flattering and they come up to speak to you afterwards and you feel like asking for their autograph. We are both a visual and an audio act and at first I thought we would never be suitable for radio but I was wrong and we are often asked to do appear on radio shows and we love it. It is so very different.” \n“I am often asked what we do and how we do it. Well\, what we do is sing\, but at the same time\, we each impersonate musical instruments and create a wall of sound without anyone playing anything. We are also very visual. We don’t just stand like a choir but use the stage and bump into each other now and then!” \n“We have had quite a few albums released and another one being worked on\, which is a departure for us\, but we are looking forward to it. That is one of the keys to us keeping so fresh—we are always looking at new challenges\, new numbers\, new places. It keeps the journey still exciting for us and hopefully that infects everyone who comes to see us. We love what we do and we love audiences becoming part of the show. We even enjoy the travelling and whether it is Europe\, Australia\, Asia\, the US or anywhere else\, we also leave wishing to come back as soon as possible. Music is such great therapy\, it embodies love\, fun and a vibrancy that sweeps away problems and brings people together to celebrate the gift of life.” \nPlease Note: For some non-classical concerts\, the window behind the stage may need to be covered for acoustical purposes. We do not always know which artists will need the window closed\, but at a certain level of amplification\, it is necessary.
