SUMMARY:Cantemus Presents "I Hear America Singing"

Rubén-Winters draws from deep roots in jazz\, salsa\, and classical music and his playing has enriched performances of multiple Massachusetts choral groups. He is the Principal Oboist of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and holds the same position with the Marsh Chapel Collegium.\nIn addition\, Cantemus accompanist Jeffrey Mead will be joined by Cantemus singer and pianist Patricia Clark in Charles Ives’ “Variations on America.” Solo work and ensembles will be featured throughout the varied program. \nThe concerts will take place in Beverly on Saturday\, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church\, 4 Ocean St.\, and in Newburyport on Sunday\, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, 166 High St. \nCantemus’ Artistic Director Jason Iannuzzi said: “In fraught times\, music can be a healing balm. It can also provide a means for us to process difficult emotions. As we prepare this program offering varied perspectives on America\, we are reminded that the American Dream is not a guarantee\, but an ideal we must continually work together to preserve.” \nFor more information about the program and to purchase tickets\, visit www.cantemus.org/spring. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.\nCantemus gratefully acknowledges sponsorship support from the Institution for Savings and Eastern Bank\, and funding support from the Local Cultural Councils of Beverly\, Essex\, Hamilton-Wenham\, Newbury\, and Newburyport. SUMMARY:Darlin’ Corey with Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem
DESCRIPTION:Darlin’ Corey features the singing and playing of three accomplished musicians of the thriving music scene of Portland\, ME. Award winning fiddler and singer Erica Brown on fiddle\, guitar\, vocals\, notable songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Shipman on guitar\, vocals\, mandolin\, bouzouki\, banjo and Portland’s favorite bass player Kris Day\, who has also toured with legends like Link Wray\, Dale Hawkins\, Ronnie Dawson and Joe Clay. \nTheir music is a diverse and unique blend of folk with influences from bluegrass and old time music. Drawing on these threads of North American folk music\, their elegant harmonies are the beating heart of their sound\, in both their original music and the traditional old time\, bluegrass and New England influenced music they regularly showcase. In Darlin’ Corey’s singing and playing\, you can feel the many years of dedication to these celebrated musical traditions. \nTogether they create an engaging performance of thoughtful originals\, traditional songs and tunes\, and songs that influenced them along the way. Erica Brown’s fiddle-playing is at turns virtuosic and completely unpretentious. Matt Shipman is an ideal counterpart as his versatility on a dizzying array of stringed instruments (guitar\, Irish bouzouki\, 5-string banjo\, mandolin) blend seamlessly\, never timid or overpowering. Kris Day holds it all together with his solid bass playing.

SUMMARY:The Machine
DESCRIPTION:The Machine has forged a 30+ year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. \nThe New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-albumrepertoire\, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. \nWith stellar musicianship and passionate delivery\, The Machine explores collective improvisation rivaling that of an early 1970’s Pink Floyd\, while their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays and lighting continues The Floyd spirit of the 1980’s. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show\, accepting requests from fans\, and for taking an A-Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. \nThe Machine has sold out theaters\, premier showcase rooms and casinos across North America\, Europe and Asia\, performed at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Riverbend\, and Gathering of the Vibes\, and shared the stage with full symphony orchestras\, including the Atlanta\, Detroit\, Pittsburgh\, Jacksonville\, Charlotte and San Diego Symphonies\, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic. \nThe band features founding member Tahrah Cohen (drums)\, longtime bandmates Scott Chasolen (keys\, vocals) and Ryan Ball (guitar\, vocals)\, and newest member Chris DeAngelis (bass\, lead vocals). The band continues on to celebrate the music of Pink Floyd and to honor the life of Joe Pascarell\, who co-founded the band with Tahrah in 1988.
