SUMMARY:Terezin: Children of the Holocaust
DESCRIPTION:Terezin depicts two days within a cell at Theresienstadt\, or Terezin\, a concentration camp outside of Prague that imprisoned hundreds of thousands of Jews from across Europe\, including over 15\,000 children. The play is the story of six of these children and chronicles two days of their lives at the Terezin concentration camp before being deported to Auschwitz. The drama takes place during the International Red Cross inspection of the Terezin concentration camp on June 23\, 1944. Each of the six characters signifies one of the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust. \nWhile the play suggests the grim reality of what lies ahead for the children of the camp\, it is also a portrait of the unabashed ability of hope that lies in the heart of a child\, and the triumph of spirit many were able to achieve through their relationships and their artwork. The play is an impassioned work remembering the more than one million children whose lives would so horrifically be stolen by the Nazis.

SUMMARY:Daisy on the MOURNING MOON by Michael Kimball
DESCRIPTION:A North Shore Readers Theatre Staged Reading \nLydia and Woody are an aging Maine couple living quietly in a rented old house on the coast of Maine. Lydia’s a retired psychotherapist and cancer survivor with an interest in paganism and homeopathy. Woody’s a semi-retired tax preparer and recovering alcoholic who\, ten years earlier\, lost the couple’s home and savings on a high-stakes investment. Enter her estranged daughter Daisy with husband Jimmy\, a high stakes gambler who’s just lost everything\, including their Massachusetts condo. Daisy and Jimmy are the home’s new owners who have arrived to move in—and Jimmy has a dark secret that’s about to track him down. \n“Daisy on the Mourning Moon” is a new play from Mainer Michael Kimball. SUMMARY:Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley: Presented by The Actors Studio & DoGo Productions.
DESCRIPTION:Anthony and Rosemary are two introverted misfits straddling 40. Anthony has spent his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland\, a state of affairs that—due to his painful shyness—suits him well. Rosemary lives right next door\, determined to have him\, watching the years slip away. With Anthony’s father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families\, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe. But then\, in this very Irish story with a surprising depth of poetic passion\, these yearning\, eccentric souls fight their way towards solid ground and some kind of happiness. Their journey is heartbreaking\, funny as hell\, and ultimately deeply moving. \nOUTSIDE MULLINGAR is a compassionate\, delightful work about how it’s never too late to take a chance on love.

SUMMARY:ROE by Lisa Loomer
DESCRIPTION:ROE\, by acclaimed playwright Lisa Loomer\, is a theatrical survey of the complicated and divisive underpinnings of Roe v. Wade\, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that established a woman’s right to an abortion. The playwright has updated the script since the Court’s June 2022 ruling in Dobbs. V. Jackson Women’s Health\, overturning that constitutional right. \nLoomer’s incisive play cuts through the headlines and rhetoric as she offers a clever\, shocking\, humorous\, and poignant portrayal of the two women at the center of this issue and explores what it is like to be an average citizen caught in the currents of history. Taking place from the 1970s to the present with characters on both sides of the issue from decidedly pro-choice to decidedly pro-life\, ROE reflects the polarization in America today while illuminating the heart and commitment each person has for their cause. \nROE was commissioned in 2012 by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) as part of their series “American Revolutions: The United States History Cycle”\, a multi-decade program of commissioning and developing new plays about moments of change in U.S. history. It was developed at the University of Texas and The Kennedy Center as part of DC’s Women’s Voices Festival as well as OSF’s Black Swan Lab before premiering at OSF in 2016. \nWritten by Lisa Loomer\nDirected by Sara Conlon \nPERFORMANCES\nFebruary 23 and 24 at 7:30 pm\nFebruary 25 at 2 pm – followed by a post-show conversation \nMarch 1 and 2 at 7:30 pm\nMarch 3 at 2 pm \nFriday\, March 1 is SALEM NIGHT. Free admission for all Salem residents. \nTICKETS\n$15 general/$10 seniors/free for all students with student ID and under 18.\nAdmission is free for Salem State students\, faculty and staff with university ID. \nSuitability warning: This production is for mature audiences. Roe contains strong profanity and graphic language. It also contains stories of sexual assault\, abortions\, self-abortions\, parental abuse\, drug use and alcoholism\, mentions of suicide and systemic oppression. \nCo-sponsored by the Sociology Department\, Center for Civic Engagement and the Intersectional Feminist Collective. \nFor access and accommodation information\, visit https://www.salemstate.edu/access or email access@salemstate.edu.

SUMMARY:Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley (at The Actors Studio in Salisbury)
\nWith Anthony’s father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families\, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe. But then\, in this very Irish story with a surprising depth of poetic passion\, these yearning\, eccentric souls fight their way towards solid ground and some kind of happiness. SUMMARY:Full Moon Story Slam – Love (at The Actors Studio in Salisbury)
DESCRIPTION:The Full Moon Stories Continue! Storytellers and audiences are enjoying The Actors Studio of Newburyport’s (TASN) eighth season of true-life stories told without notes or props on themes ranging from synchronicity to pronouns. TASN’s Full Moon Story Slam is modeled after NPR’s Moth Radio Hour. It is a story telling competition with a few simple criteria for both the official judges and the audience to vote for their favorites. \nThe Full Moon Story Slam has been a consistently popular event since its inception\, so much so that\, during Covid restrictions\, it expanded nationwide as a Zoom event. \nThe Slam is our chance to gather as friends and share true stories from our lives. Simply put\, a story slam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It puts a dual emphasis on content and performance\, encouraging storytellers to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. It is an exercise in crafting stories within a set time limit – and it is great entertainment! Story slammers will tell a 5-minute short story based on the evening’s theme: “Love!” \nVenue: The Actors Studio of Newburyport – Crossroads Plaza\n1 Merrill Street\, Unit # 3\nSalisbury\, MA 01952
