SUMMARY:Six Ways of Seeing the World
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Gabrielle Rossmer\nExhibit Dates: July 10 – August 3\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, July 10\, 5-7pm\nClosing Event & Artist Talks: Thursday\, July 31\, 5-7pm\nThe Cove Gallery\, 37 Rocky Neck\, Gloucester\nExhibit Hours: Thursday-Saturday\, 12-7pm; Sunday-Monday\, 12-5pm \nFeaturing: Kathy Archer\, Paul Cary Goldberg\, Donald Gropman\, Sonya Gropman\, Gabrielle Rossmer\, and Constance Vallis \nIn a time marked by uncertainty and transformation\, six artists come together to explore how art can serve as both personal expression and cultural reflection. Six Ways of Seeing the World\, curated by Gabrielle Rossmer\, offers a compelling look at how visual art helps us process\, respond to\, and shape our understanding of the contemporary world. \nThrough diverse media—painting\, photography\, sculpture\, drawing\, and collage—these six artists examine the intersections of inner life and external forces. While their approaches and mediums vary\, they share a commitment to introspection\, craft\, and a meaningful engagement with today’s fractured landscape. \nTogether\, these artists demonstrate six unique but interconnected ways of seeing. Their works push the boundaries of their chosen media\, reflecting on today’s world with vulnerability\, insight\, and artistic rigor.

SUMMARY:Karen Slack on African Queens
DESCRIPTION:Join soprano Karen Slack as she shares her inspiration and insight into her latest commissioning project\, African Queens. The program features eight newly commissioned art songs by some of today’s most acclaimed composers including – Jasmine Barnes\, Damien Geter\, Jessie Montgomery\, and Carlos Simon. Come hear about the process of working with the composers\, and the stories that became the inspiration for each song. During her research with creative collaborator\, Jay Saint Flono\, many powerful stories were found to represent African Royalty and each composer selected the story of whichever queen spoke to them. \n“This is why I created this recital in the first place – so that it sparks interest to develop and present these stories that have been historically ignored.” – From and interview with I Care if You Listen. \nLocation: Shalin Liu Performance Center Third Floor \nFree\, reservations encouraged. Light refreshments will be served for this mid-afternoon lecture.

SUMMARY:Bonsai Workshop at Deacon Giles Distillery
DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at Deacon Giles Distillery. We were inspired to revive the art of distilling in a town once rich in both trade and spirits\, but sadly devoid of distilleries for the last 100 years. We set out to roll up our sleeves and craft something exceptional using our own hands\, uniquely infused with our personalities and steeped in history. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Deacon Giles Distillery for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/deacon-giles-distillery \nHappens on the following Dates:\nJun 19\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EDT\nJul 10\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EDT\nAug 14\, 2025\, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Timezone: EDT
