SUMMARY:Gloucester Stage Company presents DALLOWAY: FIRST LOVE by Lindsay Joelle
DESCRIPTION:From the playwright behind last season’s The Garbologists comes an unlikely world premiere of feminine proportions. Clarissa Perry is a tree climbing\, combat boot wearing goth with no interest in entertaining the slew of suitors found by her money-strapped father. The pressure is on Clarissa to find a husband and save her family’s estate when she receives a visit from an unapologetic\, care-free suffragette who could convince Clarissa that she might want to forge a new path for herself. Experience a modern\, coming-of-age story in this stand-alone prequel to Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway. \nWritten by Lindsay Joelle and directed by Rebecca Bradshawº\, this world premiere production runs August 13 to August 29. All performances are at the Natti-Willsky Performance Center – 267 East Main Street\, Gloucester. Showtimes are Wednesdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm\, with matinees Saturdays & Sunday at 2:00pm.

SUMMARY:Noam Pikelny & Stuart Duncan
DESCRIPTION:Banjo virtuoso Noam Pikelny joins forces with master fiddler Stuart Duncan for a dazzling evening of bluegrass and acoustic music\, blending jaw-dropping technique\, inventive arrangements\, and deep roots tradition from two of the genre’s most celebrated artists. \nNOAM PIKELNY\nNOAM PIKELNY is widely recognized as the preeminent banjoist of his generation. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as the “pros’ top banjo picker\,” Noam is a founding member of Punch Brothers\, a string ensemble which The Boston Globe calls “a virtuosic revelation” and The New Yorker describes as “wide-ranging and restlessly imaginative.” Pikelny was awarded the first annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass and is a two-time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year. In 2019\, Noam was awarded the “Best Folk Album” Grammy for the Punch Brothers’ release\, All Ashore. Noam also performs with the GRAMMY nominated bluegrass band\, Mighty Poplar\, and co-hosts The Energy Curfew Music Hour\, a Chris Thile and Punch Brothers musical variety podcast released by Audible in Fall of 2024. Season 1 was nominated for a Webby Award in the Podcast: Features\, Experimental & Innovation category; it also won Most Innovative Audio Experience\, Best Live Podcast Recording\, and Best Sound Design in the Listener’s Choice category of the 2025 Signal Awards. Also in2025\, Pikelny was inducted into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame under the Five-String Performance category. \nSTUART DUNCAN\nStuart Duncan could easily be called America’s favorite fiddler. Raised in Southern California\, Stuart took up the fiddle at age seven. Since then\, he has chalked up a career that includes four Grammys\, a slew of Academy of Country Music Awards\, and nine titles as the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Fiddle Player of the Year. Now a multi-instrumentalist with a staggering command of not only the fiddle but also the banjo\, the guitar\, and the mandolin\, Stuart Duncan has built upon his bluegrass roots to become an artist that defies categorization and surpasses the limits of any specific genre. \nThe consummate sideman\, Duncan has lent his taste and tone to countless artists and projects. Whether trading dizzying instrumental licks with the likes of Béla Fleck and Jerry Douglas or adding complimentary fills for vocalists Alan Jackson and Barbara Streisand\, Duncan is known for his astute\, improvisational style that sparkles without upstaging. He’s performed with Plant Krauss\, Diana Krall\, Lyle Lovett\, Béla Fleck\, Steven Tyler\, and Elvis Costello. Though no one has a true count of how many recordings feature Stuart Duncan\, the current estimate nears 900. Notable recordings include his collaboration with Dolly Parton on her bluegrass albums The Grass is Blue and Little Sparrow\, Bela Fleck’s Bluegrass Heart\, and the Grammy-winning O Brother\, Where Art Thou soundtrack. The most provocative evidence of Duncan’s cross-genre expansion may be his collaboration with Chris Thile\, Edgar Meyer and Yo-Yo Ma on Grammy-winning The Goat Rodeo Sessions and Not Our First Goat Rodeo. \nDespite the awards and accolades\, Stuart Duncan remains one of the humblest men in the music business. A father of three\, he spends his time off rebuilding rare instruments and making music with his wife of 35 years\, Dieta.

SUMMARY:Bella Rayne Band
DESCRIPTION:At just 18\, Bella Rayne is a self-taught guitarist\, vocalist\, and songwriter whose sound is quickly turning heads across the country. Born in the mountains of North Carolina and raised along the rugged coast of Mendocino\, California\, she blends rock and Americana with the improvisational spirit of the jam-band tradition—creating a sound that feels both timeless and strikingly new\, bridging generations of listeners. Her journey began during the pandemic\, when she pulled an old Stratocaster from her garage\, fixed it up\, and taught herself to play by ear—unlocking a voice and style entirely her own. She has since formed Bella Rayne Band\, a high-energy\, guitar-driven ensemble that has quickly become one of the most talked-about rising acts on the live circuit. Led by a young lineup of seasoned musicians\, the band has surged from small rooms to coast-to-coast stages and festival lineups in a remarkably short time\, with crowds growing at every stop. Their sets are explosive and ever- evolving—blending soulful Southern rock\, modern Americana\, and improvisational jam with bold reinterpretations of Grateful Dead classics alongside Bella’s own originals. The result is a sound that feels both timeless and unmistakably new\, often described as the next generation of Tedeschi Trucks Band with an alternative edge and a 70s vibe. With demand building nationwide\, the band recently completed recording singles for an upcoming EP slated for release in 2026—marking the next step in a trajectory that shows no signs of slowing down.\nDespite her young age\, Bella has already shared the stage with seasoned artists and respected bands: appearances alongside Allman Betts Family Revival\, Melvin Seals & JGB\, ALO\, Jackie Greene\, Oteil Burbridge\, and members of Terrapin Family have all added to her early résumé and she was touted as “one to watch” by her idol\, Susan Tedeschi in a 2025 Guitar World Magazine interview. In addition\, she has been invited to iconic stages nationwide including The Fillmore SF\, The Orpheum LA\, Sweetwater Music Hall\, The Hamilton\, and even celebrated her 18th birthday with a set on the Prudential stage at Bottlerock Napa festival. One of the most iconic moments of her rising career: she was entrusted to play the legendary guitar known as “Alligator” — once wielded by Jerry Garcia. That honor\, courtesy of Grateful Guitars Foundation\, has become a defining chapter in Bella’s journey and Guitar Player magazine recently recognized her as one of the players “keeping the Dead alive” alongside Jeff Mason (Dark Star Orchestra) and Tom Hamilton (JRAD) in an article from May 2025.

DESCRIPTION:Fourteen-time GRAMMY Award winner Dan Tyminski brings the power and passion of modern bluegrass to the stage with a voice that has become iconic across genres. From his unforgettable performance of “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” in O Brother\, Where Art Thou? to his billion-streaming global hit “Hey Brother” with Avicii\, Tyminski has left an indelible mark on contemporary music while remaining deeply rooted in bluegrass tradition. \nA longtime member of Alison Krauss and Union Station\, Tyminski has spent more than three decades shaping the sound of modern acoustic music. His solo career has produced acclaimed albums including Carry Me Across the Mountain\, Wheels\, the genre-bending Southern Gothic\, the Tony Rice tribute One More Time Before You Go\, and the Billboard #1 bluegrass release God Fearing Heathen. SUMMARY:Steep Canyon Rangers
DESCRIPTION:GRAMMY-winning Steep Canyon Rangers return to their bluegrass roots with Next Act\, reaffirming the tradition that shaped them while showcasing the seasoned songwriting\, rich harmonies\, and ensemble interplay that have made them leaders in modern American roots music. \nSteep Canyon Rangers arrive at a moment of renewal and reaffirmation with Next Act\, their 15th studio album set to be released May 22\, 2026. The record represents a conscious tightening of focus: a return to the bluegrass foundations that first bound the band together\, approached with the confidence and emotional range earned through years of collective evolution. It is an affirmation that bluegrass still contains endless expressive possibility. Next Act finds the Rangers sounding deeply at home in their own musical language\, drawing strength from tradition while continuing to write new chapters within it. \nFormed in North Carolina and shaped equally by the Appalachian Mountains and the Piedmont\, Steep Canyon Rangers have long occupied a singular space in American roots music. From their earliest recordings\, the band demonstrated an unusual ability to honor traditional bluegrass forms while allowing contemporary songwriting\, literary influence\, and regional storytelling to seep naturally into the music. Over time\, this balance earned them both bluegrass credibility and broader Americana acclaim\, culminating in a Best Bluegrass Album GRAMMY Award for 2013’s Nobody Knows You\, additional nominations for Rare Bird Alert (2012) and North Carolina Songbook (2020)\, and an induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. \nIn recent years\, as their audience expanded and their songwriting reach grew wider\, the Rangers began to feel a pull back toward the elemental forces that shaped them: acoustic instruments speaking clearly\, songs built for ensemble interplay\, and stories grounded in lived experience and regional memory. Next Act emerges from that impulse. \nSteep Canyon Rangers is made up of Graham Sharp on banjo and vocals\, Mike Guggino on mandolin/mandola and vocals\, Aaron Burdett on guitar and vocals\, Nicky Sanders on fiddle and vocals\, Mike Ashworth on drums\, dobro\, percussion and vocals\, and Barrett Smith on bass\, guitar\, and vocals.

SUMMARY:The Hot Sardines
DESCRIPTION:Emerging a decade ago from the underground parties of Brooklyn to touring worldwide and recording a string of albums that’s racked up more than 60 million streams\, the Hot Sardines’ own “potent and assured” (The New York Times)\, “simply phenomenal” (The Times\, London) brand of reinvigorated classic jazz landed them at the center of a whirlwind. \nIn 2024\, cofounders Elizabeth Bougerol (vocals) and Evan Palazzo (piano) debuted \nthe Sardines’ new project at Carnegie Hall\, selling out with in hours. Banned Jazz is a celebration of joy as an act of resistance and the unifying power of music\, recounting how political forces in the U.S. and Europe tried (and failed) to suppress the music of Louis Armstrong\, Josephine Baker\, Benny Goodman and more\, with its messages of cultural\, racial\, and sexual freedom. Frontwoman and powerhouse storyteller Bougerol weaves vivid historical vignettes—of dancehall raids\, black-market recordings\, and Nazi-era laws that made playing (or even hearing) jazz a punishable offense—into an electrifying live-music experience. Her rallying cry “These are times that need live music” has never felt truer. \nThe Sardines’ latest recording is C’est La Vie\, a bilingual affair of vintage jazz standards and originals. The title track\, a Bossa nova original in French\, is a timely ode to fully living each moment\, even when you don’t know what the next will bring. A gospel-inflected “Moon River” came about when Elizabeth and Evan were tapped by director Greg Mottola to contribute music to the Miramax release Confess\, Fletch\, starring Jon Hamm and John Slattery (in which the band also makes an appearance); originals created for the project include the original “Adieu l’amour\,” a foray into the sounds of film noir. And—recorded on the road while she was pregnant with her son—Elizabeth sings “La Vie en Rose” as a spare\, hushed lullaby in duet with Bob Parins. \nThe Hot Sardines continue to tour\, taking Banned Jazz on the road starting in 2025\, which will also see the release of their seventh album.

SUMMARY:Deric Dyer - Music & Stories from a Life of Touring with Tina Turner and Joe Cocker
DESCRIPTION:Doors 6:00pm\nShow 7:00pm\n21+\, Positive ID Required\nPremium Seating with cocktail service: $44.50-$49.50 + $6.95 service fee\nStandard Seating with cocktail service: $39.50 + $6.95 service fee\nRear Floor Seating: $34.50 + $6.95 service fee\nGA Standing: $29.50 + $6.95 service fee \n+ $5 Day of Show \nDeric Dyer was born in Ireland and lived in England until 1967\, when his trumpet-player father moved his family to Bermuda – where Deric’s musical career began. In Spring of 1975\, after meeting Cliff Goodwin and joining the American Standard Band\, Deric moved to America. Just two years later\, ASB would become Joe Cocker‘s band. Playing in Joe’s horn section with the legendary Bobby Keys\, “Rolling Stones\, Stevie Wonder” Deric quickly learned the art of Rock/R&B sax. This proved to be valuable experience for what was still to come in his career. After a couple of years of playing with Joe\, Deric left to play and record with many of the best of Boston’s music scene\, a highlight recording with Rick Ocasek of The Cars on his first solo album Beatitude. \nDeric’s next life-changing opportunity came in January 1987\, when he had the good fortune to audition for Rock And Roll Hall of Fame -Tina Turner. He spent an amazing two years as part of her Break Every Rule World Tour\, and when Tina was paired with Joe Cocker on Summer festival shows in Germany\, Deric and Joe rekindled their friendship. Deric wasn’t home long from TT tour when manager Michael Lang (Woodstock Promoter) called to ask if he would like to re-join Joe Cocker and the rest of the band for the Unchain My Heart World Tour. Deric jumped at the chance to revisit that special time in his career. \nDeric continued to tour with Joe throughout the 80’s\, 90’s\, and 2000’s\, as well as playing with Roger Hodgson\, Al Jarreau\, Tony Hadley and Andrea Bocelli. Belgium’s Night of The Proms reunited him with his Tina band mate (and the best man at his wedding)\, John Miles. In 2012 and 2013\, Deric was asked to take part in the John Lennon Double Fantasy Bermuda Tribute Concerts\, where he worked with Maxi Priest\, Biggie Irie\, Roy Young\, Uzimon and many amazing Bermudian artists to celebrate the music of John Lennon. \nTwo years after losing Joe\, arguably the greatest voice in Rock & Roll\, Deric reached out to his old friends to ask if they could come together again to help keep Joe’s music alive. Their answer was a resounding “YES!” and “Mad Dogs Unchained” was born. MDU went on to play Worcester’s Bull Mansion (among other New England venues)\, release an hour-long documentary video with a live CD\, and travel Europe for eighteen shows in 2018. \nDuring the pandemic\, Deric also collaborated with James Duncan and Tony Brannon to produce “Hope!” – a song for the time – with the goal of helping lift the spirits of people everywhere. \nDeric Produced the Trilbee Kings album. Working with Executive Producer Rich Kneeland\, Deric & Rich\, with some of the best musicians in the world\, headed of to Los Angeles to record at the famous Sunset Sound Studios. Deric plays soaring solos that adds the final\, rich sound to the T.K. Album. \nOn July 4th 2023 Deric performed in celebration of Tina Turner at New York City’s Macy’s/NBC fireworks display\, seen live by millions all over the world. Later that year was a special guest speaker at the Tina Turner Museum – West Delta Heritage Center Brownsville TN. Deric also rereleased Renaissance Man with the additional track “Tennessee Waltz” Sept 2023. \nThis September brings the release of Deric’s sixth album Red String. A beautiful mix of classic songs from Dylan “Make You Feel My Love” Lennon “Imagine” to Jim Webb “Wichita Lineman” Another captivating musical journey!

SUMMARY:Mighty Mystic with Double Tiger
DESCRIPTION:Mighty Mystic is considered as one of the leaders in the international reggae scene and is a box office draw at venues and a staple at festivals. The Jamaican born U.S. based artist has 5 highly acclaimed albums 4 of which charted top 10 on Billboard and iTunes. He is labeled as a touring machine with roughly 40 tours equaling thousands of concerts and a career spanning two decades. His high flying\, stage diving\, brand of reggae music is electrifying and has been captivating audiences everywhere. He has gone from being a fan of reggae music to being a major contributor to the art. Mighty Mystic came on the scene in 2006 after scoring back-to-back international hits with “Riding on the Clouds” and “Revolution”. However\, it wasn’t until the release of his first album “Wake up the World” (2010) that he became a household name. “Wake up the World” was a chart-topping album with guest appearance by reggae icon Shaggy. Mystic continues to wake up the world with energy and passion and a brand of his own which he emphatically calls “Hard Roots”. \nFUN FACT: Mighty Mystic is also the younger brother of current Jamaican Prime Minister the Honorable Andrew Holness. When asked\, does being the brother of Prime Minister Holness have any impact on your music? Mystic simply says “Andrew has a job to do and so do I\, impact or not we both have our own mission to complete”. \nTHE EARLY YEARS\nMighty Mystic was born Kevin Mark Holness in the farming community of Goshen\, St. Elizabeth\, Jamaica to parents Morris & Sonia Holness. As a child\, Kevin showed early interest in his native island’s music. It was common to hear him singing the latest tunes while imitating the actions of popular reggae artists. When Kevin was 9\, the family left Goshen and relocated to Boston. Though oceans apart Kevin never lost the passion for his beloved reggae music. Kevin alongside his brother Stephen began performing at school talent shows\, outdoor gatherings and anywhere a mic was on display and quickly made a name for themselves as the “reggae rappers”. Soon after the brothers formed their first band the “Thunder Band”. Kevin became “Mystic” as it was his dads nickname and also the name of the area in Boston where he lived. With Mystic on vocals and Stephen on the lightening sharp guitar the brothers would score a National hit (Riding on the Clouds) and a Global hit (Revolution) on their two first releases. This early success and family bond would be the foundation of which carefully crafted reggae music would flow. \nMYSTIC OF TODAY\nThough his brother Stephen has since retired\, Mighty Mystic has continued to carry the reggae torch. And is now a Globally respected and sought-after artist on the reggae scene. His brand of “HARD ROOTS” with his high energy stage performance has been a magnet for the enthusiastic reggae fan base. He has managed to hold firm to his Jamaican roots while adding elements of Hip Hop and Rock giving Mystic his own identifiable sound. To date Mighty Mystic has released 5 successful albums Wake up the World 2010\, Concrete World 2014\, The Art of Balance 2016\, Enter the Mystic 2019 and Giant 2022. Many of his releases have become cult like favorites within the global reggae genre. He has come a long way from performing at school talent shows to now sharing the stage with some of the greats like Ziggy Marley\, Steel Pulse\, Damian Marley\, Buju Banton\, Stephen Marley\, Shaggy\, SOJA\, Toots and the Maytals\, Collie Buddz\, Sean Paul\, Lee Scratch Perry\, Barrington Levy\, The Wailers\, John Brownʼs Body\, Dirty Heads Third World\, Freddie McGregor\, Capleton and the list goes on… Whether club\, festival or TV you can be sure to be entertained by the vibes provided by Mighty Mystic. Be on the lookout for his up-coming 2022 “Giant” Album release world tour. \nDOUBLE TIGER\nDouble Tiger (Jay Spaker) is an acclaimed producer\, vocalist\, and multi-instrumentalist who has become a central figure in the modern American reggae and dub scene. Originally gaining prominence as a key collaborator and producer for the influential label Dub-Stuy Records\, he is known for heavily integrating sound system culture into contemporary roots aesthetics.\nAs a solo artist and front-man\, his music blends smooth\, melodic vocals with heavy\, 1980s-inspired steppers and rub-a-dub riddims. He is also a long-time guitarist and vocalist for John Brown’s Body\, firmly establishing his credentials within the progressive reggae-rock landscape.

SUMMARY:A Band of Brothers - More than just and Allman Brothers Tribute
DESCRIPTION:18+\, Positive I.D. Required \n“A Band Of Brothers” isn’t just an Allman Brothers tribute band; they’re a powerhouse\, uniting the top-tier talent of the East Coast. The brainchild of ace Boston guitarists Ryan Taylor and Johnny Trama\, this collective\, more than a mere homage\, harness the Allman Brothers tradition as a vehicle to bring a unique and exciting experience every night. The ensemble features artists from an array of bands including – North Mississippi Allstars \,Dickey Betts and Great Southern\, Pink Talking Fish\, Neighbor\, Dub Apocalypse\, Peter Wolf’s Midnight Travelers\, Dickey Betts Great Southern\, Slightly Stoopid\, Sonya Rae Taylor\, Band of Killers and more. \nMatt Zeiner began his professional music career touring with Matt “Guitar” Murphy\, who exposed him to a fusion of blues and jazz. His career took a significant turn in 2000 when Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band recruited him as a keyboardist and vocalist\, leading to a fruitful collaboration and tour. \nRyan Taylor on slide guitar spearheads the band with his exceptional talents. His journey\, steeped in the rich musical traditions of Austin and Nashville\, saw Ryan honing his craft the old-fashioned way. \nJohnny Trama on guitar conjures up riffs and rhythms that speak volumes. His journey through the realms of rock\, soul\, and blues\, playing with icons like Bettye LaVette and Jesse Dee\, has armed him with a mystical musical prowess. \nJesse Williams on bass is an alchemist of groove\, spinning each note into a rhythmic tapestry. His Grammy-nominated escapades with the likes of Duke Robillard and Joe Louis Walker have endowed him with a bass prowess that’s both fluid and formidable. \nTom Arey behind the drums is nothing short of a powerhouse\, orchestrating beats and fills with the finesse of a seasoned composer. His tenure with Peter Wolf’s Midnight Travelers has honed a style that’s explosive yet eloquent\, much like the Allmans’ own percussive legends. \nBrendan Tommaney on percussion is a true artist\, painting rhythms with a palette of beats and textures. Educated at the New England Conservatory of Music and seasoned with groups like Pink Talking Fish\, Tommaney brings a jazz-infused sensibility that adds depth and dimension to the band’s sound. \nPaul Wolstencroft on keyboards crafts melodies that mesmerize and transport. His tenure with Slightly Stoopid has given him a swagger that shines through each performance\, weaving a spell of harmonies and counter-melodies that elevate the band’s tribute from mere replication to a reimagined homage.

SUMMARY:Our Founding Mothers and Fathers: More Revolutionary War Connections to the Salem Witch Trials
DESCRIPTION:Each year we meet hundreds\, if not thousands\, of individuals who can trace their family line back to the Salem witch trials. We often tell visitors that the English colonists of 1692 were the founding fathers and mothers of our country. They were themselves descended from the earliest settlers\, who were establishing a new country and took the biblical instruction “be fruitful and multiply” to heart. \nIt is fascinating to consider the many connections between the Salem witch trials and the Revolutionary War generation\, particularly the one most often referred to as our “Founding Fathers.” Part II of our Rev250 lecture series will focus on four more notable connections\, including witchcraft skeptic Robert Calef\, Ipswich court clerk Thomas Wade\, condemned witch Mary Bradbury\, and accuser Bathsheba Pope. \nJoin us on Thursday\, September 17th at 1:00 pm for this free\, virtual program.\nRegistration is required for this event.
