DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is thrilled to announce two new exhibitions opening on February 1st! On view in the Sargent and Hartson Galleries is Elements\, an exhibition that responds to elements of nature or “elemental” feelings/experiences in an artist’s life. Running alongside Elements is Featured Artist Jennifer Day\, on view in the Hills Gallery. Additionally\, the Winter Gift Shop will open on Feb 1. A joint reception for Elements and Jennifer Day will be held on Saturday\, February 8th\, from 4:00-6:00 PM. \nElements features 130 artworks by 99 artists from the Newburyport area and beyond. Artists responded with depictions of the natural landscape\, mixed media abstractions of fire\, water and ice\, sculptures reminiscent of rock and clay\, and powerful commentary on the current state of our environment. \nIn the next door Hills Gallery\, Featured Artist Jennifer Day utilizes black oil paint on a gessoed panel to reveal the drama of water without the infinite options of local color. Gray scale sensitivity and range is her goal. To achieve this\, she works reductively by rubbing the surface and scraping her finger methodically through the paint to reveal the light beneath. Jennifer works between two opposites: the geometry of the picture plane versus the challenge of the nebulous\, the fleeting\, and the impulse of nature to escape the plane altogether. \nRunning concurrently alongside Elements and Featured Artist Jennifer Day is the Winter Gift Shop\, on view until March 29th. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. More information\, as well as an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org. \nFounded in 1948\, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members’ work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community.

DESCRIPTION:Originally born in Germany and transplanted to the US as a young teen\, Antje Duvekot began to hone her observational skills through a lens of biculturalism when she picked up a guitar during that move. Some years later\, the confessional folk of Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco gave her license to share her observations\, no matter how personal\, in her first emerging songs. She has never let go of that tenet of vulnerability. “Duvekot has gotten hotter\, faster than any local songwriter in recent memory. Her songs feel at once fresh faced and firmly rooted\, driven by the whispery sensuality of her voice. She believes in the redemptive power of the shared secret; and is utterly unafraid to mine the darkest corners of her life for songs that turn fear into resilience and isolation into community.” The Boston Globe \nConsidered by many to be an integral part of the national folk scene – and one of the originators of the finally recognized R&B/Folk/Jazz crossover-sub-genre – this Boston-based stalwart was born and raised in\nthe Philadelphia area. In 1992\, Shawn Colvin invited him to be special guest on her Fat City tour. “With the voice of an angel\, the wit of a devil\, and the guitar playing of a god…”\, swooned The Fort Worth Star Telegram about one of those shows. Vance’s newest album\, “The Mother Of Trouble”\, features Grammy winner Lori McKenna on background vocals\, Juno award recipient and Bonnie Raitt Grammy hit song co-writer Joey Landreth on guitars\, and master mandolinist Joe K. Walsh\, among others. Gilbert has recorded 14 albums to date\, including 5 for Philo/Rounder Records. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is thrilled to announce two new exhibitions opening on February 1st! On view in the Sargent and Hartson Galleries is Elements\, an exhibition that responds to elements of nature or “elemental” feelings/experiences in an artist’s life. Running alongside Elements is Featured Artist Jennifer Day\, on view in the Hills Gallery. Additionally\, the Winter Gift Shop will open on Feb 1. A joint reception for Elements and Jennifer Day will be held on Saturday\, February 8th\, from 4:00-6:00 PM. \nElements features 130 artworks by 99 artists from the Newburyport area and beyond. Artists responded with depictions of the natural landscape\, mixed media abstractions of fire\, water and ice\, sculptures reminiscent of rock and clay\, and powerful commentary on the current state of our environment. \nIn the next door Hills Gallery\, Featured Artist Jennifer Day utilizes black oil paint on a gessoed panel to reveal the drama of water without the infinite options of local color. Gray scale sensitivity and range is her goal. To achieve this\, she works reductively by rubbing the surface and scraping her finger methodically through the paint to reveal the light beneath. Jennifer works between two opposites: the geometry of the picture plane versus the challenge of the nebulous\, the fleeting\, and the impulse of nature to escape the plane altogether. \nRunning concurrently alongside Elements and Featured Artist Jennifer Day is the Winter Gift Shop\, on view until March 29th. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. You’ll learn some of the history of maple sugaring as well as the science behind what makes maple sap run in our trees. The stroll concludes with a visit to our sugar shack where you will see firsthand how we turn the collected sap into our delicious Appleton maple syrup! \nBe sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and boots or shoes that are appropriate for hiking in potentially wet and muddy spots or over uneven hilly terrain. All Maple Strolls are weather permitting and will last approximately 1 hour\, walking much of that time. We welcome all ages; however\, information is geared towards those 10 and up. SUMMARY:Newburyport Art presents our two February Exhibitions: Elements\, and Featured Artist: Jennifer Day
DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is thrilled to announce two new exhibitions opening on February 1st! On view in the Sargent and Hartson Galleries is Elements\, an exhibition that responds to elements of nature or “elemental” feelings/experiences in an artist’s life. Running alongside Elements is Featured Artist Jennifer Day\, on view in the Hills Gallery. Additionally\, the Winter Gift Shop will open on Feb 1. A joint reception for Elements and Jennifer Day will be held on Saturday\, February 8th\, from 4:00-6:00 PM. \nElements features 130 artworks by 99 artists from the Newburyport area and beyond. Artists responded with depictions of the natural landscape\, mixed media abstractions of fire\, water and ice\, sculptures reminiscent of rock and clay\, and powerful commentary on the current state of our environment. \nIn the next door Hills Gallery\, Featured Artist Jennifer Day utilizes black oil paint on a gessoed panel to reveal the drama of water without the infinite options of local color. Gray scale sensitivity and range is her goal. To achieve this\, she works reductively by rubbing the surface and scraping her finger methodically through the paint to reveal the light beneath. Jennifer works between two opposites: the geometry of the picture plane versus the challenge of the nebulous\, the fleeting\, and the impulse of nature to escape the plane altogether. \nRunning concurrently alongside Elements and Featured Artist Jennifer Day is the Winter Gift Shop\, on view until March 29th. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. DESCRIPTION:Walker Hancock was one of the premier American sculptors of the 20th century and a highly engaged and respected member of the Cape Ann community. Michael Lafferty is a skilled photographer who spent hours photographing Hancock in his Lanesville studio\, creating a series of intimate portraits of the sculptor at work.
