Set sail with Dan Lipcan\, the Ann C. Pingree Director of the Phillips Library and curator of our current exhibition Draw Me Ishmael: The Book Arts of Moby Dick\, and David Snider\, Director of Learning and Community Engagement. \nEach session of our voyage will feature a brief special presentation by Dan on the day’s reading and its connections to the exhibition\, followed by a lively discussion facilitated by David. By June 18\, 2025\, we will finish the book together\, exhausted but invigorated with new perspectives on this classic tale — and with the bragging rights that we have completed a Moby-Dick marathon! Rollins\nThree Tuesdays\, June 10th – June 24th | 10:00am–1:00pm | Upstairs Hartson Gallery\n$200 for NAA members / $250 non-members\nIn this Intermediate-to-Advanced-level workshop\, attendees take a fresh approach to their work. Each brings a source of inspiration such as a poem\, prose\, a piece of music\, a piece of art (not their own) or a concept that speaks to them intellectually and emotionally. From there they will create a mixed media piece based on that concept\, to include their own drawings or water-based painting as well as other elements (such as printed patterns\, torn paper\, etc.) that lend meaning and visual enrichment. There will be lots of sharing and discussion to help each artist achieve his or her goals. This workshop will be held on June 10th\, June 17th\, and June 24th.

Once the summer home of Helen Stevens Coolidge and John Gardner Coolidge—a diplomat and descendant of Thomas Jefferson and nephew of Isabella Stewart Gardner—the historic house offers a unique glimpse into the lifestyle\, travels\, and tastes of a well-connected New England family. \nParticipants will begin with a short walk from our Garden Gateway Center and explore the first floor of the house. Every item in the home is a historic collection piece original to the couple and beautifully conserved. \nThe tour will last approximately 50-60 minutes. Enjoy the rich history of this grand country estate\, home of the Sedgwick family\, as you learn about the elegant lifestyle of wealthy Bostonians on the North Shore\, and the artisans who created it. The tour takes you through the Federal-style house and the spectacular gardens\, with terraces\, statues\, fountains\, and pagodas\, each section filled with unique perennial flowers from around the world. Highlights of the tour include a room filled with stunning 19th century Chinese wallpaper\, the evolution of the stunning Sedgwick gardens\, and the hidden connection between the house and an old Southern antebellum mansion. \nPlease dress appropriately for the weather. Sturdy\, comfortable shoes are recommended. Meeting point for the tour is in front of the Main House by the copper beech tree. \nSpace is limited. \nLong Hill House & Garden Tours run most Saturdays and Sundays April through the end of September.
