SUMMARY:Silhouette Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Capture your child in silhouette! Portraits in Silhouettes will once again be at the museum this December. Reserve a time for a sitting on Saturday\, December 7 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Each sitting is 15 minutes and each child must have their own time. \nThe cost is $79 per child and you receive two silhouettes of your child\, one facing right and one facing left. Additional copies of portraits are $25 and may be purchased the day of the sitting. More than one child? Reserve two time slots back-to-back. \nJean Comerford is our silhouette artist and owner of Portraits in Silhouettes. Portraits In Silhouette is focused on bringing you original\, personalized work\, full of inventive detail and creative spark. Their silhouettes are never produced with a digital program\, copied\, or traced. You can expect a genuine\, handcut\, and individual portrait each time\, with consideration for the subject’s character and those great details – capturing “what makes them who they are.” Whether that is a signature hairstyle\, a cowlick\, the way they hold their mouth\, a bow-tie\, or glasses\, Portraits in Silhouettes love to bring out the personality in their portraits! \nAll cancellations made within four days of the program are nonrefundable unless your reserved sitting time can be resold.

SUMMARY:Cantemus Presents "The Peace of Wild Things"
DESCRIPTION:Cantemus Chamber Chorus\, with 42 members from across the North Shore\, will present three concerts in December that share “The Peace of Wild Things.” Inspired by the Animal Kingdom\, this concert preserves some seasonal traditions\, and goes beyond. The repertoire ranges from des Prez and Mendelssohn to contemporary composers Eric Whitacre and Craig Hella Johnson. Some pieces reflect on the grace and beauty of the natural world; some involve animals being personified or used as poetic symbols; and some mimic actual animal sounds! \nThe concerts will take place in three North Shore towns: In Beverly on Friday\, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church\, 4 Ocean St.; in Newburyport on Sunday\, December 8 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, 166 High St.; and in Gloucester on Sunday\, December 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church\, 10 Church St. \nCantemus’ Artistic Director Jason Iannuzzi said\, “We are thrilled to present this expansive program of choral music from the 15th through the 21st century. The animal kingdom has provided a deep well of inspiration for poets and composers who have sought to capture their grace and beauty\, as well as the seemingly human qualities of our fauna friends.” \nFor more information about the program and to purchase tickets\, visit www.cantemus.org/concerts. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.\nCantemus gratefully acknowledges funding support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and from the Local Cultural Councils of Amesbury\, Boxford\, Essex\, Ipswich\, Marblehead\, Newbury\, and Newburyport. Cantemus participates in the Card to Culture program\, a Mass Cultural Council initiative that offers reduced-price tickets to card holders. \nCantemus is a member of Chorus America\, MASSCreative.org\, and the Greater Boston Choral Consortium.

SUMMARY:Blood Sweat & Tears w/ Special Guest Jim Fielder\, Founding Member of BS&T
DESCRIPTION:The Band’s Only New England Appearance in 2024! \nBS&T has never stopped touring. Fans have their favorite musicians who are originals to them and we all agree but it is simply Blood Sweat and Tears at its best. \nBlood Sweat and Tears was born from a selfish notion that we could combine the sophistication and musical skill level of jazz music with the energy and universal appeal of rock vocal music. Instead of incessant whiny guitar interludes\, we would have improvised\, spontaneous jazz solos. Horn arrangements were not an afterthought\, they were fully integrated into the songs themselves\, some written by band members and others that would come from many different resources. These are the ideas that formulated the concept of BS&T. \nThe most commercially successful version of the band was in fact\, our second line-up. That set the course of seeking out the most talented musicians and having a revolving door for stars to join us while in between their tours. And it worked! No bored players here.

DESCRIPTION:David Benoit was bitten by the jazz bug after watching a Charlie Brown special on television and listening to the music of Vince Guaraldi in 1965. “I was already a fan of the comic strip\,” he says\, “but when I heard that jazz piano trio\, that was the defining moment when I decided that I wanted to play like Vince Guaraldi.” \nFor four decades\, the GRAMMY®-nominated pianist/composer/ arranger David Benoit has reigned supreme as one the founding fathers of Contemporary Jazz. He has received three GRAMMY® nominations in the categories of Best Contemporary Jazz Performance for “Every Step of the Way” (1989)\, Best Large Ensemble Performance for GRP All-Star Big Band (1996)\, and Best Instrumental Composition for “Dad’s Room\,” the latter from the album Professional Dreamer (2000) and in 2010\, David Benoit received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Smooth Jazz Awards. He has also worked with an impressive potpourri of musicians including the Rippingtons\, Emily Remler\, the late Alphonse Mouzon\, Dave Koz\, Faith Hill\, David Sanborn\, CeCe Winans\, Keiko Matsui\, Hiroshima and Brian McKnight. \n“Benoit tickles those keys and this is a definite masterclass on how to play the piano with feeling.” – The Jazz World
