SUMMARY:Step Aboard History: FREE Deck Tours of the Schooner Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Climb aboard the Schooner Adventure and step back in time! Our guided deck tours offer a unique opportunity to explore one of Gloucester’s most treasured maritime landmarks. Knowledgeable and passionate docents—many of whom have sailed Adventure themselves—will bring her stories to life\, from the golden age of sail to her current role as an ambassador for maritime history and education. \nWhether you’re a maritime buff\, a curious traveler\, or a family looking for a fun and educational outing\, a deck tour of the Schooner Adventure is a hands-on experience you won’t forget. Come feel the salt air\, ring the ship’s bell\, take a picture at the helm\, and discover how this proud vessel continues to inspire new generations. \nTours start at the end of the Harriet Webster Pier.

SUMMARY:Newburyport Art offers Alla Prima Painting with Todd Bonita
DESCRIPTION:Alla Prima Painting with Todd Bonita\nSaturday\, July 19th\, 10:00am–5:00pm | Upstairs or Outside\n$75 for NAA members / $95 non-members\n“Alla Prima” is a technique in which a painting is completed in one session\, wet into wet. This direct method lends itself to thickly applied impasto paint quality and expressive brush work. This class is suitable for beginners or for those who have some experience but are looking for a simple and focussed understanding of the nuts and bolts of oil painting. It is also ideal for Plein air painters who are looking to build upon their skill set. Our class begins with a demo\, where we will introduce the Impressionist philosophy of completing a painting in three acts; (1) The Lay in\, (2) Modification layer and (3) Art infusion layer. Individual steps from Drawing\, Design\, Value\, Color and Creative oil painting techniques and tools will be discussed and demonstrated. With an understanding of these principles\, students will be better equipped to meet the challenges of Alla Prima painting\, and thereby\, better able to express themselves as artist.

SUMMARY:Six Ways of Seeing the World
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Gabrielle Rossmer\nExhibit Dates: July 10 – August 3\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, July 10\, 5-7pm\nClosing Event & Artist Talks: Thursday\, July 31\, 5-7pm\nThe Cove Gallery\, 37 Rocky Neck\, Gloucester\nExhibit Hours: Thursday-Saturday\, 12-7pm; Sunday-Monday\, 12-5pm \nFeaturing: Kathy Archer\, Paul Cary Goldberg\, Donald Gropman\, Sonya Gropman\, Gabrielle Rossmer\, and Constance Vallis \nIn a time marked by uncertainty and transformation\, six artists come together to explore how art can serve as both personal expression and cultural reflection. Six Ways of Seeing the World\, curated by Gabrielle Rossmer\, offers a compelling look at how visual art helps us process\, respond to\, and shape our understanding of the contemporary world. \nThrough diverse media—painting\, photography\, sculpture\, drawing\, and collage—these six artists examine the intersections of inner life and external forces. While their approaches and mediums vary\, they share a commitment to introspection\, craft\, and a meaningful engagement with today’s fractured landscape. \nTogether\, these artists demonstrate six unique but interconnected ways of seeing. Their works push the boundaries of their chosen media\, reflecting on today’s world with vulnerability\, insight\, and artistic rigor.

SUMMARY:A Band Of Brothers
DESCRIPTION:7/19/25\nReserved Rail Stools and G.A. Standing.\n8:00pm Doors / 8:30pm Show\n21+ / Positive I.D. Required $23-$33 \nA Band Of Brothers” isn’t just an Allman Brothers tribute band; they’re a powerhouse\, uniting the top-tier talent of the East Coast. The brainchild of ace Boston guitarists Ryan Taylor and Johnny Trama\, this collective\, more than a mere homage\, harness the Allman Brothers tradition as a vehicle to bring a unique and exciting experience every night. \nMatt Zeiner began his professional music career touring with Matt “Guitar” Murphy\, who exposed him to a fusion of blues and jazz. His career took a significant turn in 2000 when Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band recruited him as a keyboardist and vocalist\, leading to a fruitful collaboration and tour. Zeiner’s own songwriting flourished during this time\, contributing notably to the band’s repertoire. After four years touring\, he returned home\, focused on original material\, and formed his own band. They achieved recognition with their 2007 release\, “Live on a Summer Night\,” and continued to evolve through collaborations with artists like Melvin Sparks and Jeff Pevar. Zeiner’s band has since been working on an ambitious new album\, showcasing his ability to craft infectious melodies with tight\, dynamic arrangements across a range of soul\, R&B\, and rock genres. Johnny Trama on guitar conjures up riffs and rhythms that speak volumes. His journey through the realms of rock\, soul\, and blues\, playing with icons like Bettye LaVette and Jesse Dee\, has armed him with a mystical musical prowess. Jesse Williams on bass has played with everyone from Duke Robillard\, Louis Walker to North Mississippi Allstars. Tom Arey behind the drums has played with artists like Peter Wolf’s Midnight Travelers. Brendan Tommaney on percussion has played with groups like Pink Talking Fish\, Tommaney and brings a jazz-infused sensibility that adds depth and dimension to the band’s sound.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Historic Dogtown\, A Walk Back in Time
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 20\, 2025\n10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nBabson Boulder Parking\nCherry Street\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nOn Cape Ann\, the name “Dogtown” conjures up many things — vast woodlands and trails; stone walls and cellar holes; tales of witches and widows; an ill-fated bullfighter; pastures\, picnics and blueberries; a sea of rocks. Dogtown is all of these things and more. But first\, it is a place where proud people once lived and worked\, at the center of Gloucester\, for nearly 150 years – until it became “Dogtown” and died out. \nThis tour will take you down the main roads of this early settlement\, to meet some of the people\, see where they lived and hear their stories. You will learn how Dogtown got its name\, why people left\, and how it has changed in the 200 years since the last house came down. You will hear about writers and artists who were inspired here\, and reservoirs that were built here. Finally\, you will see some of the inspirational word-boulders along the trails that are the lasting legacy of entrepreneur and philanthropist Roger Babson (1875-1967)\, and a symbol of the enduring nature of this special place called Dogtown. \nThe Historic Dogtown walking tour is almost three miles and will take approximately two hours. The route is over hiking trails that are generally easy\, but uneven\, with rocks and roots underfoot. The terrain is up and down throughout\, over gentle hills. Hiking attire and closed footwear advised; walking poles are useful. Bring water and insect repellent\, as they are not supplied. *This tour is not suitable if you have mobility concerns. \nPhoto Credit: Marsden Hartley (1877-1943).
