DESCRIPTION:M. Ward\, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who bridges eras with his music\, embodies authenticity and intimacy. His 2023 album “Supernatural Thing” features original songs and guest stars such as First Aid Kit and Shovels & Rope\, blending timeless American music traditions with contemporary flair. \nM. Ward has clearly mastered the whole vocabulary of American popular music and made serious decisions about how to employ it for his own ends. What Ward shares with Harry Smith’s artists and Neil Young is a context of musical and human values: authenticity and intimacy. Supernatural Thing\, Ward’s 2023 album\, features original songs sound freshly pulled from the ground\, with a little earth sticking to them. Ward’s lyric delivery has that slight rawness the ear loves\, and his voice has quiet dignity and great tenderness. Supernatural Thing is an open-hearted\, inviting album. \nThe album’s guest stars — First Aid Kit\, Shovels & Rope\, Scott McMicken\, Neko Case\, Jim James\, others — enliven the album with surprises. On “Too Young to Die\,” the women’s voices in First Aid Kit spread a light frosting over the melody\, and their Beach Boys-like chorus on “Engine 5” makes the song sound like an instant hit. The whole program has a lovely open house feeling\, reminiscent of pre-pandemic house parties. \n“The title ‘Supernatural Thing’ comes from an early thought as a kid that radio traveled the same airwaves as messages from supernatural things — and music\, especially remembered music\, is somehow tied up in this exchange\,” Ward said. \n“The sending and receiving of messages from memory and dreams seem to move along this same often broken-up wavelength. In this way and many others\, I see this new record as an extension\, 18 years later\, of my Transistor Radio record\, but this new record is better because it’s more concise and has more voices and more moods — the way my favorite radio was and still is.” \nEight of the album’s ten songs are Ward originals. There’s an unusual Bowie choice\, “I Can’t Give Everything Away” from Blackstar\, and a live rendition of Daniel Johnston’s “Story of an Artist.” \n“Bowie and Johnston are constant sources of inspiration for me\, have been for I don’t know how many years\,” Ward offered. \nPlease Note: For some non-classical concerts\, the window behind the stage may need to be covered for acoustical purposes. We do not always know which artists will need the window closed\, but at a certain level of amplification\, it is necessary.

(“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.”) \nThere is the News from Lake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr. Keillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national anthem.

Since their earliest days as a forward thinking\, progressive bluegrass band who had the guts to add drums to the mix and who was unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever evolving sound\, to their role as a pioneer of the modern jamband scene\, to their current status as elder-statesmen of the scene who cast a huge influential shadow over every festival they play\, Leftover Salmon has been a crucial link in keeping alive the traditional music of the past while at the same time pushing that sound forward with their own weirdly\, unique style.

Authentic big band sound. \nThe music of the Swing Era (1935-1946) reached mainstream popularity among young people back in the day\, and the 18-piece Beantown Swing Orchestra will show you why. The band trains teen musicians using pre-WWII instruments on performance techniques that made their great-grandparents want to dance as youngsters themselves. These old-school methods are so specialized and unknown by most modern musicians that the result is a “new” and refreshing sound that can be best experienced in certain venues\, such as The Cut Live with its dance hall acoustics and vintage vibe. In addition to a brush\, he uses a palate knife to bring life to his work. DESCRIPTION:Halfway into a busy Summer 2024 season\, on Sunday July 28th the Compaq Big Band returns to one *THE* best outdoor concert spots anywhere – the Antonio F. Gentile Bandstand Summer Concert Series at Stage Fort Park\, overlooking spectacular Gloucester Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean! \nThe show runs 6:30pm-8:00pm and admission is *FREE* – just bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. The bandstand is located at 24 Hough Avenue and has plenty of free parking. We’ve had magical nights on this stage over the years\, with some audiences numbering up to several hundred\, and many saving their blanket/chair real estate beginning late-afternoon. \nThis performance is weather permitting. In the event of rain\, the alternate concert date is Wednesday July 31st at the same location and time. If it rains both Sunday and Wednesday\, there is no alternate date scheduled. \nFronting the band at this stunning venue will be Bella Holtz\, on her second long-term long term stint with us\, channelin’ Ella Fitzgerald\, Natalie Cole\, and more. DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THE VENUE. **IT IS NOT AT THE ACTORS STUDIO.** \nMusic Director Ella Faria and singers\, Lizzy Tauro\, Janie Zaniboni\, Genesis Toledo\, and Arkida Saiwai are back together to provide a rich evening of songs from the Seventies. Brightening up your day\, these singers have an energy that’s nothing short of magic. Their inviting melodies draw in the listener\, never failing to cause a reaction. They are masterful when they perform together. These vocalists could provide the soundtrack for any emotional high or low. \nShe Sings From Her Soul is a group of young women from the greater Newburyport and Lawrence areas. All of these young women have had years of vocal training and shared the stage throughout high school in Acting Out Productions located in Newburyport and The Performing Project out of Lawrence. These singers went on to study at some of the most prestigious colleges\, universities\, and conservatories. Created in 2023\, the group has performed six times to sold-out audiences. Expect exciting trios\, melodic duets\, and inspiring group numbers\, along with some of the most well-loved iconic songs sung by individual performers. It will be a night you will talk about for a long time.

Brightening up your day\, these singers have an energy that’s nothing short of magic. Their inviting melodies draw in the listener\, never failing to cause a reaction. They are masterful when they perform together. These vocalists could provide the soundtrack for any emotional high or low. \nShe Sings From Her Soul is a group of young women from the greater Newburyport and Lawrence areas. All of these young women have had years of vocal training and shared the stage throughout high school in Acting Out Productions located in Newburyport and The Performing Project out of Lawrence. These singers went on to study at some of the most prestigious colleges\, universities\, and conservatories. Created in 2023\, the group has performed six times to sold-out audiences. Expect exciting trios\, melodic duets\, and inspiring group numbers\, along with some of the most well-loved iconic songs sung by individual performers.
