SUMMARY:TUBA SKINNY
DESCRIPTION:The pride of New Orleans’ vibrant and fertile trad jazz scene\, Tuba Skinny returns to Rockport for two shows! The beloved Crescent City collective started out over a decade ago as show-stopping French Quarter street buskers and have since turned into one of New Orleans’ greatest musical ambassadors\, touring the world with their delicious\, spirited takes on Depression-era blues\, spirituals\, ragtime and traditional jazz. They’re touring in support of their joyful new release\, Hot Town. \n“masterful and exuberant”- OffBeat Magazine\nOfficially forming in in 2009\, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into an ensemble dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Before becoming Tuba Skinny\, the core of the band played in an assortment of bands on the streets of the French Quarter in the years following Hurricane Katrina. Those bands\, the folkie punk Dean Man Street Orchestra (which included singer-songwriter Alynda Segarra of the acclaimed Hurray for the Riff Raff) and Loose Marbles both had an enormous effect on the musical culture of New Orleans\, particularly its burgeoning revivalist jazz scene. From the start\, Tuba Skinny’s home was on Royal Street in the French Quarter\, drawing huge crowds for their jubilant hipster take on trad jazz. They soon began touring the country and then even Europe\, playing in clubs and busking around city centers. \nDrawing on a wide range of musical influences\, their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound\, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs\, and their barnstorming live performances. They’ve released 12 full-length records\, the most recent ones being 2019’s Some Kinda Skake\, 2020’s Quarantine Album: Unreleased B-sides\, Magnolia Stroll\, and the just released Hot Town. \nWINDOW NOTICE: Due to the volume level of certain concerts\, the curtain may be closed over the window for acoustical purposes. All efforts will be made to keep the view available prior to the concert. \nHappens on the following Dates:\nSep 1\, 2024\, 4:00pm to 5:00pm Timezone: EDT\nSep 1\, 2024\, 7:00pm to 8:00pm Timezone: EDT

SUMMARY:Graham Nash: More Evening of Songs and Stories
DESCRIPTION:Legendary artist Graham Nash\, as a founding member of both the Hollies and Crosby\, Stills and Nash\, is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He has seen rock history unfold at some of its seminal moments – from the launch of the British Invasion to the birth of the Laurel Canyon movement a year later. An extraordinary Grammy Award® winning renaissance artist – and self-described “simple man” – Nash was inducted twice into the Songwriters Hall of Fame\, for his work with CSN and his work as a solo artist. \nTowering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his long and multi-faceted career\, stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of our lives for nearly six decades. \nNash’s remarkable body of work began with his contributions to the Hollies opus from 1964 to ’68\, including “Stop Stop Stop\,” and “On A Carousel\,” among others.\nGraham will be joined on stage by Todd Caldwell (keyboards and vocals)\, Adam Minkoff (bass\, drums\, guitars\, and vocals)\, and Zach Djanikian (guitars\, mandolin\, drums\, and vocals)\, performing favorites from across his sixty-year career.

SUMMARY:Mavis Staples
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by NPR as “one of America’s defining voices of freedom and peace\,” Staples is the kind of once-in-a-generation artist whose impact on music and culture would be difficult to overstate. \n“I’M THE MESSENGER\,” MAVIS STAPLES SAYS ON THE EVE OF HER 80TH BIRTHDAY. “THAT’S MY JOB—IT HAS BEEN FOR MY WHOLE LIFE—AND I CAN’T JUST GIVE UP WHILE THE STRUGGLE’S STILL ALIVE. WE’VE GOT MORE WORK TO DO\, SO I’M GOING TO KEEP ON GETTING STRONGER AND KEEP ON DELIVERING MY MESSAGE EVERY SINGLE DAY.” \nThat message—a clarion call to love\, to faith\, to justice\, to brotherhood\, to joy—lies at the heart of ‘We Get By\,’ Staples’ spectacular twelfth studio album and first full-length collaboration with multi-GRAMMY Award-winner Ben Harper. Backed by her longtime touring band\, Staples breathes extraordinary life into Harper’s compositions on the record\, delivering roof-raising performances with both a youthful vigor and a commanding maturity. The arrangements here are spare but weighty\, matched by Harper’s suitably lean and thoughtful production\, and Staples seizes the opportunity to showcase her remarkable and continued evolution as an artist\, one still growing and exploring more than half a century into her storied career. ‘We Get By’ is undoubtedly a timely collection\, arriving such as it does in the face of deep social divisions and heightened political tensions\, but like everything Staples touches\, it’s also larger than any particular moment\, a timeless appeal to the better angels of our nature that’s universal in its reach and unwavering in its assurance of better things to come.
