He has been a featured soloist with orchestras across North America\, Europe and Asia. He has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Yo-Yo Ma\, Renée Fleming\, Eric Owens and Time for Three. Nikki is currently Concertmaster of the Grammy award-winning Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under Music Director JoAnn Falletta and has appeared as guest concertmaster with several major orchestras\, including as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. \nHe has recorded for Naxos\, Beau Fleuve\, Atoll and Decca labels. He is highly sought after for his passionate renditions and extensive repertoire\, as well as his exceptional ability to connect with a global audience\, amassing a media following of millions of viewers who have tuned in to his music. \nChooi gained international recognition by winning First Prize at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition and Second Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Competition. He also received the prestigious classical music award\, the “Yves Paternot Prize” at the Verbier Festival. \nChooi has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin\, Belgian National Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\, among others. Additionally\, he has collaborated with esteemed artists including Anne-Sophie Mutter\, Pinchas Zuckerman\, Lang Lang and James Ehnes. He performs on two exceptionally rare violins: the Titan Guarneri Del Gesu violin from 1741\, on loan from CANIMEX INC. in Drummondville\, Quebec\, Canada\, and the Engleman Stradivarius violin from 1709\, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation in Japan. \nClayton Stephenson\, piano\nAmerican pianist Clayton Stephenson’s love for music is immediately apparent in his joyous charisma onstage\, expressive power\, and natural ease at the instrument. Hailed for “extraordinary narrative and poetic gifts” and interpretations that are “fresh\, incisive and characterfully alive” (Gramophone)\, he is committed to making an impact on the world through his music-making. \nGrowing up in New York City\, Clayton started piano lessons at age 7 and was accepted into the Juilliard Outreach Music Advancement Program for underprivileged children the next year\, advancing at the age of 10 to Juilliard’s elite Pre-College program. He credits the generous support of community programs with providing him with musical inspiration and resources along the way. \nHe now studies in the Harvard-NEC Dual Degree Program\, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economics at Harvard and a master’s degree in piano performance at the New England Conservatory under Wha Kyung Byun. His accolades along the way have been numerous — in addition to being the first Black finalist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022\, he was named a 2022 Gilmore Young Artist\, as well as a 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts and a Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. He also received a jury discretionary award at the 2015 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Manship Artists Residency is pleased to announce The Quarry Project: Photographs by Tsar Fedorsky\, which opens at the Manship Artists Residency on Friday\, June 7 and runs through July 7. The Quarry Project is a continuation of Manship Artist Tsar Fedorsky’s twenty-year practice investigating the properties of black-and-white photography and how it creates abstraction from realism. Begun in 2016\, the more recent quarry photographs are a study of duality and tension. They comprise a deep exploration of the familiarity of place\, the quarries near Fedorsky’s home in Gloucester.\nVisitors can register to attend on the home page of the Manship Artists Residency website at ManshipArtists.org.

Come experience our version of Gala Day. We encourage guests who would like to come dressed in their best 1920s attire and spend the day with us! The site will be open from 11am-3pm. General Admission is $15 (plus fees)\nThis is a family friendly event! Guests Under 16 will be FREE\nTickets at-the-door will be $20\, buy tickets in advance for a discount.\n-Explore the Historic Nurse Homestead Museum and its beautiful grounds.\n-Live music by Wolverine Jazz Band\n-Vintage Cars in partnership with The Greater Boston Vintage Society\n-Vintage Vendors from Picture This Antiques & The Salem Flea Marketplace\n-Try your hand at playing period-style lawn games. It was a way to welcome the community to explore the newly restored historic house\, learn about local history\, raise funds for restoration projects and just enjoy the beautiful grounds on a summer day! The first Gala Day in 1912 was also used as a fundraiser to create a colonial garden. This year we hope to raise funds to restore and improve our Kitchen Garden.\nAdmission fees and donations from our annual summer fundraiser go towards the preservation of the Nurse Homestead. As an independent 501c(3) non-profit we rely almost entirely on donations and admission fees to preserve this unique historic site.

SUMMARY:Saturday Bluegrass Brunch with RPS
DESCRIPTION:The RPS Band is primarily made of five professional musicians dedicated to creating great grooves. We play R&B\, funk\, soul\, jazz\, rock\, blues\, and an occassional samba\, approaching it all with care and artistry.\nWe play a repertoire of songs from the fifties through today\, and add our own arrangements and ideas – and we feature original music as well. \nWe’ve played many of the iconic Greater Boston clubs\, including places such as The Western Front\, Johnny D’s\, The Lizard Lounge\, and the Middle East to name a few. We also play in smaller venues\, restaurants\, and for private parties. \nBios for some of the band:\nAlvin Terry’s music is rooted in Funk\, R&B\, Jazz\, and Gospel. He has played and recorded with Archie Shepp and received drumming tips and concepts from Max Roach. Alvin has also performed with Ricky Ford\, Marian Brown\, Claude Williams\, Dakota Staton\, and Valerie Pomaroff. He is a member of the music ministry at Grant AME Church in Boston\, Massachusetts\, and books music for a variety of clients as the owner of FlamTap Enterprises. Alvin plays percussion for numerous occasions as well as several annual events. These include The Three Kings Production in Boston\, Mass. at The Berklee Performance Center featuring trumpet player John Faddis; and All That Jazz\, a yearly concert on Martha’s Vineyard that features vocalists Armstead Christian and Shawn Montiero. He was featured on Eric In The Evening recently and one of his original works\, Faith In One\, received special recognition.\nPatrick Mottaz\, a Swiss-born resident of Jamaica Plain\, is an excellent guitarist for any style of music you can think of. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Berklee’s Music Performance Program and teaches professionally as well as being an active performer. His influences include Wes Montgomery\, Pat Metheny\, Sylvain Luc\, Wayne Shorter\, and Bill Evans.\nDoug Rich is from the Midwest\, and he spent time there playing with local jazz legends like Ray Felder and Woody Evans\, and Gospel artists including Charles Fold and Donald Lawrence. Since moving to Boston and graduating from Berklee College of Music Doug has been playing bass all over New England in numerous genres and with many musicians\, but is most excited about what RPS is doing right now.\nLynne Miller… born to musicians; raised in a jazz environment; singing since nursery school; life-long vocalist in local church choirs and gospel groups; RPS member since 2016.\nCyndi Dailey Smith\nVocal and instrumental training from a young age. Sings all genres of music. Former Music Teacher (Newton Public Schools\, Newton\, MA)\, Former Myrtle Baptist Church Choir Member (Newton\, MA)\, sang solo with the Boston Pops\, and joyfully joined the RPS band in 2016.\nAnthony B. (Tony J.) Jacobs is our frequent guest and collaborator on percussion\, and we have a variety of guest artists that sit in with us\, including a few excellent keyboard players.

Hear from Marie Watt about her work and inspiration\, see a Jingle Dance performance by world champion dancer Acosia Red Elk (Umatilla Nation) and enjoy a themed brunch in the Atrium Café. \nOutside the museum and throughout the downtown area\, the Salem Arts Festival offers art making\, dance performances\, live music and more. The powerful one- man stage play depicted his bruising childhood which included witnessing a gangland killing when he was nine years old. Palminteri played 18 characters and brought them all to life in his autobiographical play. His friends\, enemies and family came alive on stage. Hollywood Studios went crazy after seeing it and offered him millions of dollars to turn it into a major movie. There was one catch… They wanted to put a star in the role of Sonny and someone else to write the screenplay. With $200 dollars in the bank…Palminteri said No… he would hold out and wait. He wanted to play Sonny and write the screenplay. Then one night Palminteri walked into his dressing room and sitting there was Robert De Niro who just saw the show. Robert DeNiro gave Palminteri the chance he was waiting for… And as they say in Hollywood the rest is history. Palminteri wrote the screenplay for the film A Bronx Tale and then most recently wrote the book for the Broadway Musical. It was the first time in history that the same actor wrote the one-man play\, the movie\, and the Broadway Musical and starred in each one. In the past 35 years\, Chazz has appeared in over 60 films. To name a few – The Usual Suspects\, Analyze This\, Mulholland Falls\, Jade\, Guide to Recognizing Your Saints\, Legend\, and Bullets over Broadway\, which he was nominated for an Academy Award. He has starred in over 20 television series and has won 3 Emmy’s. Chazz is most recently seen in Modern Family\, Godfather of Harlem\, Law & Order and Gravesend.

Also just released on Reference Recordings is the complete Beethoven concerti with Sir Donald Runnicles and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. \nAn avid chamber musician\, Mr. Ohlsson has collaborated with the Cleveland\, Emerson\, Tokyo and Takacs string quartets. His recording with the latter of the Amy Beach and Elgar quintets released by Hyperion in 2020 received great press attention. Mr. Ohlsson has also appeared in recital with such legendary singers as Magda Olivero\, Jessye Norman and Ewa Podleś. Among Mr. Ohlsson’s many awards and competition prizes\, it was his 1970 triumph at the International Chopin Competition\, where he won the Gold Medal (and remains the single American to have done so)\, that brought him worldwide recognition as one of the finest pianists of his generation. In recognition of the Chopin Bicentenary in 2010\, Mr. Ohlsson was featured in a documentary “The Art of Chopin” co-produced by Polish\, French\, British and Chinese television stations and in August 2018 the Polish Deputy Culture Minister awarded him with the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for cultural merit. \nMr. Ohlsson can be heard on several major labels such as RCA Victor Red Seal\, Nonesuch\, Telarc and Hyperion. His ten-disc set of the complete Beethoven Sonatas\, for Bridge Records\, has garnered critical acclaim\, including a GRAMMY® for Vol. 3. SUMMARY:The Die is Now Cast: Essex County's Response to the Intolerable Acts
DESCRIPTION:Nicknamed the “Intolerable Acts” by New Englanders\, the passage of these punitive laws pushed Massachusetts\, to the brink of war. \nIn December 1773\, a mob of Boston residents stormed three merchant ships moored at Griffin’s Wharf and quickly destroyed the chests of East India Company tea located onboard. Three months later\, in response to the Boston Tea Party\, Parliament passed a series of laws known as the Boston Port Bill. These legislative acts essentially stripped Massachusetts colonists of their constitutional\, economic\, and political rights. \nNicknamed the “Intolerable Acts” by New Englanders\, the passage of these punitive laws pushed Massachusetts\, including the colonists of Essex County\, to the brink of war.\nJoin Historian Alexander Cain as he explores Essex County’s political and constitutional responses to the Intolerable Acts and the steps the colonists of the county took to prepare for war with England after reconciliation became impossible. \nMeredith Farm is a privately owned\, 188 acre farm in Topsfield\, which has been recently renovated. Its 1793 Barn houses an extensive private collection of artifacts related to American history. \nThis program is part of Essex County Revolution 250.Essex County Revolution 250 is an initiative of Essex Heritage in partnership with Massachusetts Rev250 and dozens of regional museums\, heritage sites\, and organizations\, with the intention of raising awareness and highlighting the diverse stories of Essex County\, Massachusetts residents\, free and unfree\, during the American Revolutionary period. DESCRIPTION:Renowned as the vocalist for genre-crossing band Pink Martini\, China Forbes has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman\, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show. She performs this intimate solo concert in support of her new album The Road\, to be released in May. \nChina Forbes was born and raised in Cambridge\, Massachusetts and graduated cum laude from Harvard\, majoring in Visual Arts and English\, with a minor in Theater. After graduation\, and before being lured West to sing with Pink Martini by Harvard friend and classmate Thomas Lauderdale\, China lived performed off Broadway\, in New York regional theatre and as a singer/songwriter in NYC clubs. \nChina because the lead singer for Pink Martini in 1995 and has co-written many of the bands most beloved songs with Lauderdale\, starting with “Sympathique”\, and continuing to the most recent singles “Lemonade Song” and “Let’s Be Friends”. Her original song “Northern Line” plays over the end credits of sister Maya Forbes’ directorial debut film Infinitely Polar Bear (Sony Pictures Classics). Last year Chin Forbes released her post-pandemic anthem “Full Circle” followed by her suicide song “Rise”\, both singles for the forthcoming third solo album\, slated for release in early 2024. She is the recipient of the 2022 Ella Fitzgerald Award at the Montreal International Jaz Festival; previous winners include Diana Ross\, Etta James\, and Liza Minelli. \nABOUT THE ROAD ALBUM\nChina Forbes\, the beloved lead singer of the globe-trotting “little orchestra” Pink Martini\, releases her first solo album in 15 years\, with 11 all-new original songs. The free event will be held on Sunday\, June 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. and will feature fun for the whole family through books\, art\, and music. \nFamilies are invited to bring their own blankets to enjoy Rainbow Story Time\, the Genders of the Sea\, and music from Jammin’ with You on the CAM Green campus\, located at 13 Poplar St. in Gloucester off Grant Circle. There will also be a curated collection of LGBTQ+ stories with Sawyer Free Library\, art activities\, and free lunches made available by The Open Door. Registration is required.
